There is not much inventory in this shop, but everything is neatly laid out and arranged. Prices are slightly higher than you would find in department stores, but it's a chance to support a local small business. You can find designer jeans and accessories and brand names like Max Mara, BCBG.
PROS: Walking distance from Path
CONS: A little costly
Looking for something fun and not wanting to spend a lot to complete your new outfit? Check out Treasure Island Jewelry. They had a huge selection of costume jewelry; necklaces, bracelets, earrings, hair accessories. Most things are around $10 so you can add some flair to an outfit and not over spend.
PROS: great selection, not expensive
This cafe is tucked away in a strip of stores, but it's worth the wait for the great selection! Everything is casual and the prices are reasonable. They say their claim to fame is their pizza, but we had sanwiches. Definitely looking to check them out again when we're in the area.
PROS: Casual atmosphere, great sandwiches
CONS: could be a wait during lunch rush
I have very curly hair and a friend suggested that I check out Makeovers Inc. The front of the salon is a retail store with tons of hair products and the salon stations are in the back. My haircut was fine, but the stylist didn't listen when I asked not to have so much product used in my hair afterwards. (Not the biggest deal). What I didn't like was that my 15 min hair cut (a trim, really) was over $50! That is ridiculous, I don't care if it's in Hoboken or not. This place isn't swanky enough to charge over 50 bucks for a trim.
PROS: Can pick up hair products in this store
For a medium sized liquor store, they have a good selection. I've been able to find special bottles of wine and specific imported beers. I would say that the sales guys could be more helpful. They tend to stay behind the counter or in the back area. There have been times that I've been in the store 7 or 8 mins wandering around before I was ever asked if I needed something.
PROS: Big parking lot
CONS: Staff could be more helpful
I recently had some new jeans hemmed (kept original hems). A friend suggested Jenny's Cleaners on Washington Street. My jeans were finished exactly when promised and she did a great job. It cost $17, which I felt was a little high.
PROS: On time service
CONS: A little pricey
I recently had a sliding door screen fixed at Ramsey Hardware. They were very friendly and they had the screen fixed within a week. They even offered to carry it to my car. I've also been to the store in the past for some usual hardware store items, and always received the same great level of friendly service.
PROS: Convenient on Main Street, friendly service
Carlos's bakery is a little too comercial. The prices are very inflated and the quality is just good. If I pay nearly $15 for a small dessert, I would hope it would be out of this world. They hire a young staff to work the weekends, so you'll have to be patient as they talk to each other and take their time helping the customers. Overall it's a decent place, I think they are just living off their reputation a little too much.
PROS: Convenient location
CONS: High prices
This small salon is filled with personable service and you'll find the prices are quite reasonable. It's located in a residential neighborhood, so there is plenty of parking. I've been going to this place for nearly 6 years now. It was a suggestion from a friend and I've been appreciative ever since! Bring cash or a check book, they don't take credit cards!
PROS: Reasonable prices, personable service
CONS: They don't take credit cards.
Battaglias on Washington Street is a great store to nose around in, and come out with something fun and unique. They have housewares, papergood, bakeware, knick knacks and so much more. The prices are between reasonable and pricey...but chances are you'll find something special for yourself or someone you know.
PROS: Unique items
CONS: A little pricey
