Arizmendi
Arizmendi is, flat out, the best bakery to plan your day to. Here's what I mean,
Breakfast - Cup of peets across the street and Arizmendi's Yummy corn cherry scone, oat scone, maybe even their vegan banana walnut muffin....
Lunch - How about an Asiago roll or a a choice of their fresh Baguettes to acompany some of their delighful cheeses....
Dinner - Order a half baked daily special pizza (all of 'um are so yummy) and you are good to go!
Desert - can't miss with the chocolate fudge cake!
See what I mean!?!?
PROS: Close your eyes and just pick, you can't miss. Grab a tissue first!
CONS: Some areas close early on certain days.....
Ninna Restaurant
This husband (chef) and wife (head hostess) teamed rest is just the best! The clay pot mussels starter in a lemongrass, thai basil, and chilies broth is the absolute best and I love just ordering right from their daily specials, surprise me! A great entree is the chicken in red curry with baby potatoes as their currys are always top notch!
PROS: Flavors are the absolute best! Great warm and friendly staff....
CONS: A tad pricey and can be cramped on a friday or saturday night.
Zza's Trattoria
What can I say about Zzas? I've been going there forever and can never get tired of it. Pasta dishes (rotelle a la chix or the rock shrimp with linguini and smoked bacon) are to die for! The clams in white wine cream sauce can't be overlooked either. Best of all, go on your birthday and you'll light up the house and maybe get a free desert!....
PROS: You can color with crayons on the table cloths!
CONS: decibels can get up there!
Gaylord's Caffe Expresso
Gaylords is pretty much a Piedmont landmark! Open late, midnight everyday, you can count on crowds, chatter, local art or photographs decorating the walls, and great coffee! The mexican mocha and the milky way are my all time favs...
PROS: Coffee and atmosphere
CONS:
Restaurante Dona Tomas
My new favorite mexican rest in Oakland! The Guacamole is to die for, the salsa with its robust roasted chilies was great, and the vegetarian black mole and squash dish was awesome! If you have room for desert or decide to split one with your partner, have the flan with a mexxican hot chocolate! So good!
PROS: Flavors are robust and the atmosphere is warm, staff very friendly
CONS: A tad pricey and a long wait without a res on a friday or saturday night
Envisage Health & Wellness
Recently, I came across a postcard flyer in my mailbox for an introductory massage promotion for only $45. I visited the website and then decided to call. To my surprise, a man answered and turned out to be the therapist. I must admit, I was a little hesitant to book considering I never had a male CMT before, but during our conversation, he was very pleasant, professional, and knowledgeable. I decided to go ahead and take an appointment, then found out he was indemand. I had to wait a few days, but figured it was a bargin. Felix showed up on time, had relaxing music with him and was as courteous and pleasant in person as he was over the phone. I have received many massages throughout the east bay, but his was the best ever! I'm now a regular!
PROS: Great hands! He really knew how to get through my tension without pain
CONS: He doesn't take weekend appointments and a little tough scheduling
