Black Rock has fixed my car several times in the past year, and I've never had any problems with their work. As a woman, I feel comfortable coming here, and don't fear that I'm being sold repairs that I don't need. The work is done quickly and competently in a friendly, down-home atmosphere.
Sue has given me great haircuts, and flawless eyebrow waxing for over a year now. The prices are extremely reasonable. Sue doesn't take appointments, so there might be a bit of a wait, but I've never had to wait more than 15 minutes.
PROS: No appointments, very convenient
CONS: May have to wait once you get there.
Good quality ski, snowboarding, and snow-shoeing equipment for sale and rent. Friendly knowledgeable staff willing to heop you decide what to rent. Prices might be a little higher than big chain stores, but the atmosphere make it worth it.
The attorneys at Lakin Spears are the most ethical, competent, reliable, and reassuring attorneys I have ever worked with. They have estate law, family law, and real estate law departments. If you need legal help, they are WELL worth the money!
We finally found a place that understands all the Medicare rules, and has a great selection of styles and custom sizes for my diabetic mother-in-law's shoes. The store itself is fairly basic and bare-bones, but Rick, the owner, is very friendly and helpful.
CONS: Closed Mondays.
Yerba Buena is situated on several wooded acres in Woodside. The owners have planted large tracts with the native plants that they sell, so that you can see how they look and grow in various seasons. They have an extremely knowledgeable staff that will help you select the right plants for your situation, and for a fee will come to your location and work with you to design your landscape. At their Woodside location, there is also a gift shop with lots of native plant, gardening, and nature books. At certain times of the year, they serve teas and brunches as well.
This is a good store for find that one signature piece for an outfit. The clothing is stylish, a little arty, and attractive. Lots of good jewelry too.
CONS: Not too many larger sizes
This store has a wide variety of interesting art objects, many of which are useful as well. Examples, wooden bowls and boxes, jewelry, woven afghans and scarves, soaps, stationery, ceramics, pottery, blown glass, metal work. it feels a bit like an artists' collective. Great place for a gift or just to browse.
This store had something we had been unable to find anywhere -- a workable but inexpensive case to fit Irish bagpipes. The staff was very helpful and responsive to our questions. We have also purchased a truly beautiful hammered dulcimer from them.
I could spend days in this store. They have just about any instrument you could want, including all sizes and sorts of folk and early instrument. We have bought Irish bagpipes and bodhrans from them, as well as Irish sheet music and instructional videos. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful. They also have a thriving website and catalog business.
