Pamela's
Pamela's has many repeat customers, mainly because of their pancakes. They offer a wide variety of choices - chocolate chip, peaches n cream, buckwheat, etc. The super duper thin hotcakes are delicious, and they bring back memories of when my mother used to make them for me when I was little. They make the edges of the pancakes a little crispy, which adds to the overall goodness! And they also offer crepes (your choice of toppings), which I have tasted and are very yummy.
I think this is probably the only restaurant around town that serves breakfast all day. Prices are a good value. Clientele mostly consists of the local college students and senior citizens. The waitstaff is pretty pleasant, too. I wish they'd change the western theme here, though. Kind of tacky.
Wexford Post Office Deli and Catering
If you live in the North Hills and have not yet experienced the food from this deli, then run there now. This business is located in a historic post office building (hence the name) although they have expanded and most of their cooking is done at a separate location. The food is very good for the price. You will see a steady stream of customers during lunch time picking up a deli sandwich or a wrap. You can get a deli sandwich for under 5 bucks, which is cheaper than going to one of the fast food restaurants that offer the same fare. I have been to several events that have been catered by them and I will always hear a comment or two about how good the food is.
Mad Mex North Hills
I'm surprised the other reviewers only gave this place 3 stars. This is as close as you get get to Tex-Mex without actually having to go to Texas. There are a lot of original choices on the menu, and there's sure to be something for everyone (they have quite a bit of vegetarian items - try the chick pea chili burrito!). I was excited when they opened this location as its closer to me than the Oakland one. We visit here quite frequently and we have never had a problem with our service. I do agree that the parking situation is a problem, especially during peak times. The restaurant is very small, and so is the parking lot. The store that is next to Mad Mex is NordicTrack, and they have signs posted everywhere about their parking spaces being for their patrons only. You can use their spaces when the store is closed, however.
Magoo's Bar & Bistro
Magoo's offers a wide variety of choices on its menu - there are the standard offerings of pastas, steaks, soups and salads. They also offer some things you don't see at too many places of this caliber - wraps, bouillabaise (spelling?) and freshly made ravioli (this is what I had when we stopped here. you can definitely tell the difference between fresh and pre-made/cooked!) My husband had the seafood diablo, which he said tastes better at Bravo's. They also offer a children's menu. On some evenings the do offer some local bands in a variety of music genres. While they do offer many specials throughout the week on drinks, their margaritas and glasses of wine are overpriced.
John L. Behm, MD
There are doctors out there who just aren't knowlegable, and this is one of them. My husband went to see him for some lumps he had under his skin. I usually go with my husband to see the doctor because I am the one who asks all the questions and such. Well, without running any tests whatsoever, he proceeded to tell my husband that he had a terminal illness. Even though I tried to explain to my husband that there is no way he could diagnose that based on no bloodwork and other diagnostic tests, my husband was completely stressed out by this doctor's idiocy. Luckily we went elsewhere, got the correct diagnosis and moved on to a better physician.
Angelia's Pizza
That is not an exaggeration. I honestly could eat their pizza several times a week, and is probably one of my most favorite pizza places ever. Anytime the office girls decided they were ordering pizza from Angelia's, if word got out, everyone was placing an order. I love the taste of their pizza - not too much sauce or cheese. Their prices are cheap for such unbelievably good food. Their hoagies are good too - very large for the price $6. Depending on when you ordered, there might be a very long wait for delivery, but let me tell you, it's worth the wait.
Union Grill
I visited this place quite frequently as an employee working at Pitt. It is located in North Oakland, so you will see many college students at the tables there, and it can get pretty busy. I think for the price the food is reasonable. I have only ordered their burgers and salads (which are HUGE) but neither the people I went with nor I have never had any complaints. The decor is OK, but I have always felt like the place was just too dark with respect to lighting. There is a small patio in front for outside dining. I never liked that idea as passersby walking on S. Craig were just too close for comfort.
Ritters Diner Inc
If you are in the mood for a home cooked meal this is the place to visit. For the price, the quality is a great value. There are lots of choices on the menu, and they'll make breakfast choices any time for you. The diner is open 24 hours, so it's perfect for stopping after a night out at the bar. If you're there at peak times, you may have to park on the main street (Baum Blvd.) because the parking lot is small.
Pietro's Pizzaria
This family owned little pizzeria has fairly good pizza. The size of a large pizza is more like the size of a medium at other pizza places. The pizza sauce is kind of sparse, but there is the right amount of cheese. Prices are reasonable, they usually deliver on time. It is a little hard to understand some of the workers there - their English can be quite broken. They also sell pizza by the slice, which is nice if you are in thearea and in the mood for a quick bite of pizza.
Roseanne Granieri, MD
That is one of the best things I like about Dr. Granieri. She doesn't rush in and rush out, just so she can make her quota for the day. She knows a lot of personal non-health related details about me just through talking with me, and she always remembers these details. She's very compassionate and very thorough. She keeps up to date with the latest literature, and is very respectful of the decisions you make about your own health. I have been going to her for years and got two other women I know to switch to her as well, and they are both extremely satisfied.
