Lares is a gem hidden on Pico that serves incredible Mexican food. Don't leave without trying the carnitas (insane!) or the fajitas which are made with potatoes (so delicious). Good margaritas as well. This is a great place for a group as it's a very fun, party atmosphere with mariachis. Expect to wait on the weekends.
PROS: Incredible food
CONS: Wait on weekends
Fritto Misto is a great local place to get some Italian flavor. They offers big portions of pasta where you can add your own sauces, great minestrone soup and tasty chicken salad. First timers can score a free dessert if you ask. There's also a special on Saturdays with all you can eat calamari.
PROS: Very tasty and inexpensive
CONS: Packed for dinner
As expected from being located inside Fred Segal, this little shop sells pricey stuff for tots. It's got a nice selection of fun stuff for little boys and girls (no preteen gear here) and you can get some nice gifts.
PROS: Trendy fun merchandise
Kragen is the best place to find any auto parts or accessories. They're reasonably priced and the place is quite large. Lots of stuff for cleaning and making your car look and smell pretty as well. Lot of parking as for some reason this store is always empty.
PROS: Can find almost anything you need
They do a decent job and in a fairly quick amount of time. As mentioned below, they do do the hard sell for the pricey services but don't falter! The basic is usually just good enough.
PROS: Quick and decent
Came for waxing here from Ruth. She is very nice and friendly and made me feel very relaxed right away (always important for waxing!). However, it is quite expensive and not a place for a quick visit.
PROS: Takes her time
Main Attration is one of several nail salons on Main that are very assembly line - get in, get out, and gets the job done for cheap. They do have the nice vibrating chairs but the pedicurists are always pushing to sell you the $10 leg massage which I find annoying.
PROS: Very fast and cheap
Tracy's is right on Montana in the middle of all of the shopping in a very cute cottage. No need to make an appt. They've been written up in magazines like Allure but the manis/pedis are not that incredible but they are cheap.
PROS: Cute atmosphere, good service
Great, nice location right on Montana near Fresh Fields. Very inexpensive and there's usually no wait. They do a good job for the price and they're aren't pushy.
PROS: Nice location
You just have to find the right person. I've had the best massages here and the price can't be beat ($40 or so for an hour). There's virtually no amenities - it's just about the massage. Ask the staff for the right recommendation.
PROS: The price
CONS: No amenities
