Almaden Valley Athletic Club
My son has been taking swim lessons at AVAC for 3 1/2 years and has enjoyed every session. The instructors have all been very knowledgeable and have the ability to make the class fun. The parent tot classes are a bit crowded but the classes for 3 years and up are a good ratio or 4:1. Although the price is a bit high to me and they don't allow for make up classes I don't have any real complaints and would recommend them to others. At 4 years old, my son is comfortable in the water and loves to swim.
PROS: good structure, good location, friendly instructors, nice facility
CONS: high price, limited parking, overly strict critera to move on to next level
Almaden Pet Salon
My pug has been to several groomers in his lifetime. Because he is so difficult when getting his nails trimmed (it has actually taken up to 4 people at once to accomplish this task) we have actually been asked not to return to two locations! However, Almaden Pet Salon has never had a complaint, actually seem to like my dog, and they do a great nail trim. In addition, they are the ONLY salon to actually brush my dog until he no longer sheds. This is soemthing I had previously thought impossible due to his fine undercoat. So as long as my dog behaves, we will continue to use their services and I will recommend them to anyone who asks.
PROS: Able to cut my difficult dogs nails and get rid of his excess shedding.
CONS: No one ever answers the phone and you have to leave a message to get an apt
Nam's Take Out
There is never a crowd but the food is good and quick and the service is friendly. My family really enjoys the house chow mein which has lots of meat and vegatables in it as well as the egg rolls. I also enjoy getting a bag of frozen pork buns to stash in the freezer and pull out and heat in the microwave for a quick lunch or snack. They are delicious!
PROS: good food, quick service
CONS: none
Little Oak Preschool
Little Oak is located on a beautiful elementary school campus in a quiet neighborhood with a secure front gate and clean, brightly lit classrooms. There are two playgrounds, one for the 2-3 year olds, and one for the 4-5 year olds. Both are fully fenced with age appropriate play equiptment, grassy areas, shaded areas, sand pit and lots of room for riding trikes and cars. The staff is very caring and fun and my son feels very loved by everyone there. My son has attended 3 preschools and one home daycare and this is the only setting where I really feel that a good part of my money is going back into the materials and activities that directly affect my son. The atmosphere at Little Oak is very warm and friendly right down to someone from the office greeting us by name every morning as well as at pickup time. The only downside is the high price tag but since everything else is so perfect (and I checked into over 12 preschools) I think it is very much worth the price. I would, and have, highly recommended Little Oak to many friends, neighbors and relatives.
PROS: Top notch setting, caring staff, great playgrounds, excellent activities
CONS: High price, difficult to get into, no fllexible drop off days
