Forbes Mills Steak House
If you like steak, you'll like Forbes Mill. It's a very nice steakhouse with great cuts of beef. The sides are pretty good as well. I did have oysters on a half shell as an appetizer and they were very "delicate" (i.e. the small variety). My beef was really good. It's a pricey restaurant, but has a nice atmosphere.
La Villa Delicatessen/gourmet
The ravioli at La Villa is delicious! It's fresh and always a treat. I've been going there for years, specifically for the ravioli, but they do have a variety of other Italian foods.
Bret Harte Cleaners
I get all my dry cleaning done at Bret Harte Cleaners. The staff and owners are friendly and they always do a nice job. I always get all my clothing returned, nicely cleaned and never damaged.
Fresh Choice
I really like Fresh Choice. They have such a large salad bar, as well as several hot items (soups, pizzas, pastas, baked potatoes). There's definitely something for everybody's palate! The kids love the variety. It's also inexpensive. Lastly, it's also clean. They are constantly cleaning up the salad bar area which makes it much more palatable! Go there hungry!
Monterey Bay Aquarium
I love the Monterey Bay Aquarium. The exhibits are so well done and the fish are fantastic. The jelly fish exhibit is the BEST! We were also lucky enough to go there when they had the great white shark in captivity. That was amazing. The kids love the hands-on displays. Although it gets crowded, it's well worth it.
Rei
I love REI. You can find just about anything outdoor-related there. We've bought tents and sleeping bags there, as well as other outdoor equipment. However, more recently I've shopped there for clothing and shoes. All the merchandise is high quality, but also can be a little on the pricey side.
PROS: great selection, good quality gear
CONS: a little pricey
Pump It Up
Pump It Up is a great place for a kid's party. For the parents, it's hassle free. For kids, there's a variety of jumpy houses and inflatable obstacle courses/activities. It's also nice because they go to one room to jump and play, then they move to another room for more inflatable fun. The break kind of mixes it up a bit for the kids. The best thing is they jump like crazy and sleep well that night!
Burger King
For fast food, it's OK. It's convenient, fast, consistent quality and the kids like it. If we feel like a hamburger, we normally go elsewhere, but it is close to home!
Century 20 Oakridge Mall
Although parking is a bear, the theaters are nice. The seats are comfortable and it's relatively clean (for a movie theater). There are several theaters so you always have a lot to choose from, and with many different playing times.
PROS: comfortable seats
CONS: parking
Graystone Elementary School
My oldest son started Graystone as a 3rd grader. I was a little concerned because he came from a small, private school. However, he had an easy transition because the kids were so friendly. My youngest son is now entering 3rd grade and he loves the school. He's had wonderful teachers. The parent participation is great. There also seems to be very little bullying or fights there. Good kids from a good neighborhood...
