So having forgot Valentine's day this year, I remembered at the last minute when somoene mentioned that they were sending flowers. So on the most popular day of the year for roses, I found myself calling every florist in the city. This was the absolute only place that could accomodate an extra order because they planned to have a lot of last minute folks like me. The arrangment they sent was stunning and incredibly fresh. They were even pleasant on the phone when I'm sure their phones were ringing off the hook.
This is a tiny museum, but it has a great collection of American Folk Art that ranges many years. The permanent collection is on the small side, but somehow this museum manages to attract a lot of smaller shows and travelling pieces. The only thing that I don't like about this place is that when they have temporary collections, they do not last very long. Most of the bigger museums have special exhibits on display for months, but this place seems to max out at a few weeks.
This shop has an outstanding collection of custom-made rings and earings. Once when my wife and I were out strolling around the city, we came across this shop and she fell in love with almost everything that she saw. A few days later I returned to the shop to pick out something special for her. The salesman actually remembered us coming in a few days earlier and helped me to pick out something for my wife. The personal touch and custom service here is incredible.
While this book store has tons of books on all different subjects, I love coming here because it has a special section of books about New York, which appeals to both New Yorkers and tourists alike. The people who work here are also really into what they do and you can tell how much pride they take in knowing about the merchandise and the authors that they promote.
This is an excellent store if you are looking for imported books in foreign languages. They not only have books in Russian, but they also sell books in other Slavic languages such as Bulgarian. And if you cannot read foreign languages, they also have a pretty large selection of books in English and books on tape.
When I was traveling abroad, I ended up buying some prints that were in odd sizes. When I could not find a standard size frame for them, I went here to have them custom framed. While custom framing is never cheap, I felt like I got a good deal at this place. THe only thing that I did not like was that it took a couple of weeks, which I thought was a long time to leave my art at the place.
This is the department of public works that maintains all of the city's public parks, swimming pools and public museums. I am choosing to review this because I had a very positive experience at one of the public parks that I think people should know about. Last fall, I left my jacket on a bench in a public park. It had some money and a camera in it and a park ranger actually took it and saved it for me. I could not believe that they had it when I called looking.
This is a very large medical practice with a great group of doctors. One of the things that I appreciate most about this practice is that most of the doctors are very seasoned and mature. None of them are fresh out of school without a clue as to how to treat a patient. They also all have admitting privileges at all of the major hospitals.
THis is a really cool shop if you are interested in painting ceramics and having them blown or glazed in a kiln. They take walk-ins but they also have classes that you can register for. It is a realitively cheap way of entertaining yourself for an afternoon. This is also a very social place and a good place to go if you are looking to meet some new people.
When my wife thought that she wanted to learn to paint, she took a night class here. She was very pleased with the small class size and high level of instruction. She said that her teacher was very outgoing and willing to stay after class to help students who wanted extra instruction. They also offer classes in photography and ceramics. I have been very impressed with the student's works that I have seen.
