I used Richardson about 2 years ago to remodel my bathroom that had a leaking showerpan. They came in and did the job in 2 days for about $500 less than the nearest estimate. The workers were all friendly and even wiped their feet at the door (if you've ever done construction to your home you know that's AMAZING). They did a remarkable job cleaning up after the construction was done, I didn't have to pick up or vacuume or anything. They did the job well and were polite while in my home, what more could you want from a contractor?
PROS: Professional, honest, respectful of my house!
Sea Islands is a local vet hospital located on James Island. The building is small and rather outdated but the doctors do an amazing job caring for the animals. When I used to have my cat this was her vet and they always treated her gently as if she was theirs. This is the hospital that she died in and they were very comforting to me in the situation and I'll always be greatful for that. Being compassionate is not something you can teach and not something that comes with a nice new facility, and based on that I would recommend them to anyone!
CONS: Office is a little run down
I used Mr. Sloane when I was looking for a home on James Island and he did a wonderful job showing me many homes that were in my price range that were exactly what I was looking for. He ended up finding me the perfect home that I've been very happy with. Mr. Sloane was very accomodating and worked hard at finding me properties and fitting my odd schedule to show them to me. I could just tell he took pride in what he did and really cared about making me, his customer, very happy. I'd recommend them for any real estate job based on my experience!
PROS: Hard working, accomodating!
La Hacienda is just about the only mexican restraunt in historic charleston but it's the best so who needs another? The atmosphere is very mexican and very laid back (particle board floors, torn booths, pinatas, painted mural of mexico on the wall). The food and wait staff are what really makes the place stand out though. I always go for the #11 which is a ton of food for very little money. The fresh tortilla chips will fill you up plenty if you just came for some margaritas. The wait staff doesn't speak very good english but it doesn't matter, they will figure out what you want and bring it to you in about 30 seconds and they always keep the glasses full. If you're looking for casual mexican at a great price La Ha is the place!
PROS: Great wait staff, the enchiladas are the best!
CONS: particle board floors are odd.. but hey, it's mexico
Jim N Nicks is a good souther style BBQ joint located in downtown charleston. The atmosphere is very eclectic and just a little bit of everything but it's warm and inviting. The only menu item I say you HAVE to try are the cheese biscuits. Get a dozen because everyone at the table will LOVE them. The BBQ sandwitch is also a great choice for an entree. The staff is worked hard but always seems to be enjoying themselves. The tv with ESPN are a nice touch for when you go with the boys. I'd recommend Jim N Nicks to anyone looking for some good southern BBQ!
PROS: Cheese Biscuits
I myself went to Parkwood for my first 18 years and now so does my son. The doctors there namely Dr. O'Dell are always warm and friendly and very gentle and good with children. The building however is very old and a little scary, I know I was scared of it as a child. The waiting room is very outdated and there's not much to keep the children entertained (and not crying). I would still recommend Parkwood because of the great docs but they need a remodel terribly!
PROS: Great Doctors namely Dr. O'Dell
CONS: Building old and scary to kids
Ye Ole is right out of 1960, it's a great family environment and they really do have great ice cream and food. By far the best desert is the bananna split which is three HUGE scoops and a banana, it's so great and brings back the memories. If you're getting a quick bite to eat, I think Ye Ole has the best BLT in the area, and just like everything there it's cheap and yummy. The only problem I have is that the staff is mostly high school kids and can be a bit lazy at times. I still highly recommend it though!
PROS: great BLT and banana split
CONS: high school staff
My aunt recently had Paradise install a 24' above ground pool for her. They came when they were supposed to and did an amazingly fast and professional job. They even stayed for an extra 30 minutes or so going over how to care for the pool and how to work the filtration system. They didn't have any hidden costs or hidden agenda, just wanted to give good customer service and deliver a quality job. They also did a great job cleaning up, couldn't even tell they were there except for the pool of course. Now we can all relax this summer and know that the pool will be around for many more! Highly Recommended!
PROS: very professional and honest
Pita Pit is located on King St and a favorite of us CofC students. Menu items are all around $6, I'd recommend the Ceaser pita, it's the most bang for your buck. Make sure to go to the BACK of the counter to place your order, not the front or you'll get strange looks! If you need a quick fast food alternative then look to the pita pit, the stoners working behind the counter are always a good time too!
PROS: Friendly staff (a little too friendly)
CONS: a little pricey for the amount of food, place feels dirty
Being a local Charlestonian we get a little sick of all of the gift shops trying to cash in on the tourist buck, but Rhett Butlers is different. They always have interesting stuff that is actually reflective of the city and not just what people THINK we should be. The store is very cute located in historic charleston, and has a wide selection of charleston memorabilia and apparel. I'd say Rhett's has the biggst selection of charleston merchandise in the city. If you're a tourist coming to charleston, stop by Rhett's and get something to remember us by!
PROS: Wide selection, Southern Hospitality
CONS: Steep prices (gotta pay that downtown rent somehow!)
