Discount Tropical Fish
Don't inquire about saltwater fish in this store lest you get the "speech" from the owner about how cheap people are.
No freshwater selection at all, and maybe a few parts and supplies - whatever he bought from a magazine.
PROS: made for about 30 seconds of entertainment
CONS: rude, no selection
T & T Tropical Fish & Reptile
Talk to Paul - the owner.
Great selection of corals and SW fish, nice selection of freshwater fish as well. They've got several very nice show tanks and a nice frag tank - they're setting up a second one in the back.
Good selection of parts and supplies as well.
I'll continue to make the 45 minute trip to this store for my auqaria needs.
PROS: Helpful staff, great selection and prices
CONS: bit of a drive for me
B B Tropical Fish & Pet
Selection? What selection? Bought some live rock - or barely alive rock. Ovecrowded with junk, poor lighting, felt like I should be asking to see the stuff in the "back room. Everything on the showroom foor was poor quality at best.
Could definitely use a re-model.
Won't be back.
PROS: Close to home
CONS: very poor selection, higher than normal prices on what they do have
Village Tropical Fish
Located in the village, nice selection, and yeah, they know what they're talking about - if you can get them to sit still for a minute.
Felt like I was invading their space when I came in to inquire about some SPS corals they had in one of their tanks. Maybe they thought I was just a window shopper? Bought a couple of parts I needed for a 105g reef tank and split.
If I'm shopping for something specfic, I'd go back, but they didn't make my list of regular stores to frequent.
PROS: good selection, everything looked healthy
CONS: don't forget to wear your nose ring and proudly display your tattoos
Fish-R-Fun
Fish R Fun only carries freshwater fish, their stock looked to be in poor health when I toured their store. Though the owner was eager to make a sale, it looked more like he was selling to get out of the business.
PROS: They were open?
CONS: minimal selection at best
Aquarium World
The store layout is VERY nice, they have a 10+ foot tall in-wall saltwater aquarium that's a must see, a large pond with a waterfall, quite a selection of salt and freshwater fish, a modest selection of parts and supplies (filters, lights, food, etc) and a reasonable in-store selection of high end aquariums.
Keep in mind, all these nice things cost money and you'll definintely be paying for them with every purchase. Nearly every item I've priced with them has been double or more than double what I can get it for online and at least 50% more than most local stores.
Go here to browse around but take your business elsewhere.
One other note, there are only 1 or 2 people working there capable of giving you an answer for anything, so if you ask a question and it's the wrong person, expect to wait while they track down someone who knows what's going on.
PROS: Nice furnishings
CONS: Out of this world prices and sub-par staff
