Quiznos Classic Subs
This location was nice, but it closed in late 2005 or early 2006. A few months later the space reopened as Railhead Deli and I believe the next closest Quizno's is either down on Beltline or at Frankford and I-35E.
PROS:
CONS: No longer there.
Great Clips
The hairstylists at this location do equally well with my daughter's baby-fine hair and my husband's curly hair. They remembered us after our second visit and we usually call ahead to avoid waiting. There are only a few parking spaces directly in front of the store, so be prepared to have to cross the lane with traffic coming in off Trinity Mills and be aware the parking lot may get up to 3/4" of moving water if there's a good rainstorm.
PROS: Inexpensive, friendly, efficient.
CONS: Parking isn't always great.
Army Navy Warehouse
It's a trove for military surplus items both in-store and online at their eBay store. They carry Airsoft equipment and a boon for costume hunters is that they also rent things. Friendly service and they were happy to recommend places for me to find things I wanted that they didn't have in stock.
PROS: Great source for reasonably priced camping gear.
CONS: Smells like a surplus store. (That may be a pro for some people.)
Murphy's Deli
Murphy's Deli is a chain specializing in serving office buildings and it shows in the ambience at the Mockingbird location. They make up for it with their food -- muffaletta, tabouli, a great variety of lighter dishes and Greek salad served with grape leaves on the side.
PROS: A great choice if you work nearby and want to eat well.
CONS: Has all the ambience of eating in an airport restaurant.
Casa Navarro
We used to frequent Casa Navarro for business lunches because they have quick service and the food is both reasonably priced and tasty. Go for the lunch combos, but their charro beans -- the "bean soup" another reviewer mentioned -- will keep them in your memory when you're craving Mexican food.
PROS: Great home-style Mexican food, fast service.
CONS: None
Lizard Lounge
We fall into the older crowd (at one show we ran into friends of my stepdaughter) but still enjoy catching the occasional special event at Lizard Lounge. It is pricey, but you get what you pay for -- buying $50 at the door VIP tickets to see Paul Oakenfold a few years ago got us access to the much less crowded rooftop patio and its bar, along with an excellent view of the show. Inside it's usually a bit smoky for my taste, but that's the nature of nightclubs.
PROS: Great opportunities to see artists in a smaller setting.
CONS: Smoky, parking lot is kinda dicey.
Healthcore Physicians Group
Dr. Andrew Phan has been my husband's primary doctor for years and became mine as well a few years ago. He treats us with the respect we haven't felt in the past with providers that write off our understanding of the healthcare system as a sign of hypochondria and doesn't push medication on us. He didn't even miss a beat when he was removing stitches from a head laceration my husband had and our then four-year-old asked "Can I see his brain?". He's good people and we're glad we found him.
PROS: Consumate professional and always listens (or acts like it!).
CONS: He's a long drive for us... but it's worth it.
Play It Again Sports
After moving into a larger space in the same plaza, this Hancock Fabrics store is better organized and much more shopper-friendly with the same attentive and helpful staff. I've seen them treat novice crafters with the same respect they do with regular clients they see every week. I've never had to wait more than a few minutes to have fabric cut, even during busy times.
PROS: It's a clean, well-lit place for fabric and other craft supplies.
CONS: They're in the far corner of the plaza from traffic entry points.
Candrell Car Care
Do not leave your car here without a written estimate in hand and signing an authorization for ALL services done before they begin work. We signed a written agreement for work to be done with a verbal promise to add an estimate to it the next day. The Carrollton Candrell's performed additional work we did not authorize -- an oil change they charged us $25 for plus a $2 environmental surcharge despite "oil change $10.88" on the marquee outside -- and charged us 25% over the estimate they added the day after we dropped off the car, leaving us to pay it or allow them to have a legal claim to our car. Both of those practices are common scams identified by the state Attorney General's office. Buyer beware!
PROS: Close to a major intersection (Midway and Trinity Mills).
CONS: Does not call before performing unauthorized service and overcharges.
