Q's Chinese Restaurant

Columbia, MO Chinese Restaurants 01/16/07: 'delicious food, lovely atmosphere'

Very classy establishment - cozy little place tucked away off Nifong. Since my boyfriend and I ate there, we've never gone back to a Chinese buffet. Nothing you can get at a buffet compares to the excellent food and service you get at Qs.

Ice Chalet Antique Mall

This is definitely the place to go for antiques and collectibles. It's the kind of place where you can spend hours just browsing around. Prices are pretty reasonable too.

Blackberry Exchange

Columbia, MO Consignment Shops 01/16/07: 'cool shop'

Blackberry is more of a consignment shop than a vintage shop. If you're looking to go strictly vintage, Maude's is better. But Blackberry is starting to carry more vintage items. The thing that gives them a competitive advantage, in my opinion, is they carry a good selection in sizes other than small and medium. Sometimes I have a hard time finding stuff that fits me in Maude's, but not here. Laura, the owner, always gives me a good price when I sell my stuff there.

Streetside Records

Columbia, MO CDs / Record Stores - Columbia, MO Musical Instruments 01/16/07: 'the best music store in town'

Huge selection of used cds, by artists you actually want to listen to, unlike most bargain bins. Great selection of used dvds too. Staff is always friendly and willing to help you find whatever you're looking for. They also have a lot of hard to find artists. I've been going here since I started college, and I haven't been disappointed.

Slackers C D's & Games

Columbia, MO Musical Instruments 01/16/07: 'take them or leave them'

I agree with what another review said - the employees aren't that great. Even the cd selection isn't that great. The only reason I go there is for vinyl and video games. It's true their video games could be more reasonably priced for used, but they generally give me a good deal for my used movies and games.

Country Kitchen

Columbia, MO American Restaurants 01/16/07: 'scary place'

Two tables away, people were screaming at each other and getting into physical fights in the middle of the restaurant. The scariest part was the manager didn't seem to care until several tables complained. Waitress was rude and while the food itself wasn't bad, the atmosphere scared me.

Columbia, MO Beauty Salons 01/16/07: 'difficult to get in, but worth it'

The first thing people should know is that Ray isn't a businessman, he's a professional, Rusk-trained stylist. That being said, he's not the most reliable person. It is very hard to get an appointment, but he knows what he's doing. If you're concerned with getting a trendy look, this is definitely the place to go. He keeps himself updated on the latest trends. I've been going there for two years, and have never walked out disappointed. The only reason he doesn't get all five stars is because he tends to cancel appointments and is generally hard to get ahold of.

David The Salon

Columbia, MO Wigs & Hair Pieces - Columbia, MO Beauty Salons 01/16/07: 'bad experience overall'

I also had Gina as a stylist, and she was terrible. I have no idea what the other reviewers are talking about, because she doesn't keep up with current trends at all. I brought pictures to show her, and the end product looked nothing like the pictures. When it was time to pay, I gave her a very generous tip (more than she deserved for the quality of the haircut), and she didn't even say thank you or come back...nothing. The people at this salon were very rude - I wasn't greeted (or spoken to at all) for the first 10 minutes I was there. The place looked run down, even though it had been remodeled. Avoid this rip-off at all costs.

Tiger Village Apartments

Columbia, MO House & Apartment Rentals 12/18/06: 'should be called tiger ghetto'

First I rented from Colony, which is owned by the same company (Homkor) as Tiger Village. I should have learned my lesson at that point. They assured me that I would have a better experience than with Colony, and explained that Colony was in the middle of changing management (which I later found out was a lie). They waived my deposit, since I was choosing to rent from them again. Basically they should be called Tiger Ghetto, because half the residents like to scream obscenities in the parking lot at 2am, and the other half don't speak english. For more stories about how Homkor rips you off, see my review on Colony Apartments.

Colony Apartments

Columbia, MO House & Apartment Rentals 12/18/06: 'beware of homkor'

Homkor is this company that owns Colony, Gatehouse, Tiger Village, etc. Initially these apartments look like a good deal, the deposits are low, and they clean their properties pretty well. However, I agree with everything the last reviewer said. Maintenance never fixes anything unless you call them three or four times. Won't do anything about noisy neighbors or loud music. The neighbors and the neighborhoods themselves are not exactly family friendly. Even after I had my carpets professionally cleaned, and the place was spotless I only got $50 of my deposit back. The one positive is they are the cheapest, if you want to go through a rental company...but remember, you get what you pay for.
