Kabuki Restaurant

Pasadena, CA Japanese Restaurants 01/22/07: 'Excellent Food'

The other reviewers here have talked about the sushi. I had a chance to eat some of their other entrees on their menu. One in particular stands out as excellent. It is their Miso Black Cod... YUM! It is a grilled black cod fillet in a sweet miso sauce that is a killer! Accompanying the cod on the plate is roasted sweet corn and baby asparagus. A great dish! An appetizer of note is their beef wrapped asparagus... an asparagus spear wrapped in a slice of tender beef and grilled.... served on a bed of greens in a sweet miso ginger dressing. Good stuff!

Canton City Restaurant

Montebello, CA Asian Fusion Restaurants 01/22/07: 'Great Food!'

I, too, have been going to this restaurant for YEARS since I first discovered it back in the early '90s. Wendy is a great hostess/waitress and the food never fails to impress and satisfy me. For me, it's the #4 on the lunch menu that gets to me each time... Sweet & Sour spare ribs, fried rice and a huge egg roll along with the best tasting egg flower soup in the San Gabriel Valley. I have converted many a doubter when taking them to this fine restaurant. This restaurant does things the old-fashioned way when preparing their dishes. When was the last time you had chow mein that featured NO NOODLES??? Real chow mein has bean sprouts and assorted veggies. What is taken for chow mein these days is really LO MEIN (soft noodles). Here, you also get a bowl of crispy noodles to go with your chow mein or soup. I normally judge a Chinese restaurant by their sweet & sour sauce. The more effort they put into this sauce, the better that I think they do with all their dishes. They have some of the best sweet & sour in the county (my opinion)! Anyway, if you haven't gone to a really good Chinese restaurant lately, then you have to try this place. It looks like a hole-in-the-wall, but it has some marvelous food.
