Sky High
This was a really fun find. My husband took our two preshoolers there for an afternoon recently. They had so much fun that we all went together another day. The building is filled with trampolines--on the floors and walls. There are separate areas for young children, and the staff is good about supervising and enforcing the safety rules. It's great indoor exercise for bad weather days. I wouldn't recommend it for hot summer days, though--there's no air conditioning. The atmosphere is geared towards teens (music, lighting and junk food). Eat before you go.
Golfland Usa
My family always enjoys an outing to Golfland. They have two 18-holes courses, and it's especially nice to go when it's not too crowded. (Try lucnhtime, dinnertime, or cloudy/cool days.) Bring your sunblock and water, though--there's isn't much shade. They have an indoor arcade area, but so far we've been able to avoid that!
Sunnyvale Parks & Recreation
We've been very pleased with the quality of classes the city's parks and recreation department offers to children. They contract with local karate, dance, gymnastics, etc. schools to offer quality instruction at a very affordable price. The facilities at the Remington Drive location are very nice, but the quality at other Sunnyvale locations can vary. (There was no place for parents to sit and wait during the karate class at the Ponderosa Park location, so the parents stood & shivered outside or waited in their cars.)
Katana Sushi
We're lucky to have such a nice neighborhood sushi restaurant. We go there early (5-ish), and it's usually empty. We bring our two preschoolers, and they really enjoy the appetizers and california rolls. The service is nice, and the whole place (including the bathrooms) is clean and nicely decorated.
American Diner
Our kids appreciate this place for their (really small) toy/play area, eclectic decor (tons of stuff all over the walls) and candy machines on the way out. We usually play "I Spy" while we eat (spying things on the walls). The food really isn't great, but they serve breakfast all day. The service is fine.
Wild About Spanish
My kids (ages 3 and 5) and I attended a trial class. I was impressed with the teacher's ability to draw the children in and teach a second language through puppet play, songs and other interactive play. (The class is taught entirely in Spanish.) She covered the Spanish alpahabet, animals, geography, and colors in a 45-minute class. We'll be signing up for a class!
Firehouse Grill & Brewery
Service is so-so. The bar food/appetizer menu is limited, but they offer nice entrees. I love the pasta & salmon dish. It's fun to try their seasonal microbrews. The bar area can be loud and sports-oriented (big-screen TVs). The upstairs dining area is quieter, and suitable for large groups.
Pasta Market Italian Restaurnt
Visit Pasta Market if you're looking for a quality, quick, kid-friendly meal. You order and pay for your meal at the counter and they serve it to you at your table. This means you don't have to control antsy kids while waiting to pay at the end of the meal. The service is quick, and the food is very fresh and delicious.
Hair Factory Inc
This isn't the cheapest place in town, but you get what you pay for. (And who wants to suffer for weeks with a bad $10 haircut?) This place offers good value for your money--a nice haircut with good service and a pleasant atmosphere.
