I bought my Honda Accord from Checkered flag--and in that respect (minus the following problems), I feel I got a deal. Used, etc. Beautiful.
Shortly after the purchase, I was deployed for a couple months. When I returned to VB I started having a few issues with the car but I was within my 3 month warranty window so I took it in to the Checkered Flag service department. I assumed they were honda specialists so they would know what they were doing. WRONG.
These jerks took her for about a week, said they fixed her and so I believed them. Went out to sea for a few more weeks, and when I came back, the car was having the SAME problems. And because I was no longer in the "window" I had to pay. Guess what? I should have followed my instincts and took it somewhere else, because the problems RETURNED!
And they returned halfway across the country on an orders move. I called and spoke to Dave, the manager of the shop... I was so MAD. I told him that I wanted a refund for the work they did.. or lack of. He said they couldn't do it. He said I'd have to bring it back (FROM FOUR STATES AWAY) and they'd look at it again WITH CHARGE! (BTW, the problem was sinking brakes. I would step on the brakes and the pedal would slowly sink to the floor. You might think I'm an idiot because I know nothing about cars and I believed them when they said it was air in the break lines. They charged me over $300 for a 'break kit' they said they had to special order to bleed the breaks when the problem, I found out when I took it to a local mechanic at home, was a faulty master cylinder. My at-home mechanic said, "Any good mechanic would have pinpointed the master cylinder as his first hunch. They just wanted to rip you off." And, the repair of the master cylinder cost HALF of what Honda charged me for NOTHING. The second problem? Cruise control didn't work. They must have gave her a quick-fix because it worked for a while, then it stopped again. Over the phone, DAVE said that it would cost another $300 bucks for a new 'computer', on top of the 80 I already paid for their 'repair')
I tried to re-explain the problem, thinking maybe he didn't understand that I had already given them $400 bucks for NOTHING. That he would be sympathetic and offer me a free oil change--SOMETHING. I mean, isn't the customer your priority?.. but I got nothing. He let me talk and then said, "Are you finished? Once again, there's nothing I can do."
I was like, "No, actually let me talk to YOUR manager."
He left me on hold for almost a 1/2 hour. Every time I tried to call back after that, the manager wasn't in. I wrote emails but got nothing back. I felt that, if I was male, I would have been treated differently. Screw Checkered flag.
It's really good and fast.. Try the carnitas burrito with pico. My fave! Just don't go to the one in Lakeside near the Vons; the burritos taste like they were made two days ago.
I'm a native and I love love love this place! It's where I take family and friends who are visiting... Pancakes the size of your face, delicious omelletes, very fast service.. and my coffee cup is never empty. It's very colorful and artsy on the inside, and they do serve alcohol in case you want a bloody mary in the morning and in a tall mason jar. I hope you take this advice and check it out! Careful on weekends.. it gets super busy in the mornings.
Maybe it's because I used to live in a border town and I have had really tasty authentic mexican food. It was a step up from Taco Bell.. but that's just my opinion.
