Trader Joe's
Love this Trader Joes for all the right reasons: good location, delicious frozen food section, the booth in the back where they either concoct recipes from TJ's foods or offer you bites of their latest new food: French apple tart, pancakes with blueberries and organic maple syrup, different coffees, etc. My husband will go shopping here and bring home really healthy, good for your heart foods: lentils, herb salads, goat cheese, all types of nuts, nut mixes and trail mix. Also the good "bad stuff": dark chocolate covered cherries, triple ginger cookies, mini choco chip cookies, etc. And our shopping bill is always much cheaper in comparison when we go to Safeway. Definitely go here!
Amici's East Coast Pizzeria
If you get cravings for some thin crust NY style pizza, with sausage and bacon, this is the place to go! In addition, they offer a Caesar's salad with tangy anchovy dressing but no real anchovies in the salad for those of us who are put off by the look or smell of fish in our salad. Nice wood tables and both times my husband and I have been there, there have been no waits, although they do take reservations.
For vegetarians, they offer artichoke-non tomato based pizzas. For pasta-holics, they have a great pesto penne pasta dish. Even our children like this place.
Valley Medical Specialty Center
Most of the people who attend Valley Specialty Center have no insurance for their children other than Valley Health Plan and MediCal. Nevertheless, the pediatric specialists are world class! One has access to specialists in endocrine (diabetes), pulmonology (asthma), cardiology, neurology, sleep medicine, spina bifida, infectious disease, and genetics. There is also an insurance program, Healthy Kids, administered by the state that helps parents acquire health insurance for their children. In addition, the staff is warm, friendly and bilingual. Definitely recommended.
Whole Foods Market
Whole Foods can be "whole paycheck" but if you are craving some good seafood soups this is the place to go. They have different varieties of seafood gumbo and chowders near the fruit and vegetable aisles. Over by the hot foods, they have meat based and vegetable based soups. The bakery sells sliced baguettes if you need a starch and will give you free butter on request. Finally if you need some cheese and dessert, you can buy individual pieces too!
Thrift Box Lucile Packard
Good prices and quality. Store is well organized with doodads and seasonal things at the front of the store and clothing, shoes, etc in the back. Great place to pick up inexpensive mugs, and how about 10 cents for a hanger! Ladies at the front desk are always nice and they have 2 dressing rooms. There's street parking in front which can be difficult and some limited parking in the back. Store is cash only which can be a bother. Otherwise a good place for a bargain hunter!
