Hen House Pharmacy
Hen House is the best grocer in KCK. It's clean and organized and not rundown, unlike the rest of the grocery stores in KCK. When I lived there I always shopped there.
Cracker Barrel
If you are a traveler and looking for a Craker Barrel location; this one is closed....not sure where the exact closest one is- I know there is one in Olathe, KS and one in Independence, Mo
Blue Room
When I lived in the Kansas City area, I would frequent the Blue Room's Open-mic poetry nights. They were held once per month. The atmosphere is captivating. It is located in a urban area in Kansas City area (the Jazz District, also referred to as the 18th and Vine area). It is neighbored with good soul-food and cajun restaurant's, the Negro League Baseball Museum, The Gem Theatre and a few other nice, classy places. Inside of the Blue Room, you will find historical pictures of famous Jazz musicians. The tables are unique and designed to reflect the world of Jazz. The only issue I had was that they don't serve alcohol on open-mic nights, but they do other nights of the week. They have a list of events, other than open-mic. If you are looking for a classy, clean and relaxing night out, I would recommend The Blue Room.
Irving Northwest Library
This library looks like it belongs in the middle of the ghetto. It is raggedy and not upgraded to modernized library style. The downtown location is 10 times better and the City Officials should be ashamed that they haven't attempted to upgrade this location. The only thing they have going for them is the fact that they have a friendly, knowledgeable staff. The hours are weird. On two occassions I drove all the way there and they were closed. It's in a shopping center area, which is weird for a library.....I would recommend that you use the main branch, not this one.
First Convenience Bank
I have First Convenience Bank for my banking needs. I am extremely underwhelmed and if you are thinking of opening an account there, I strongly suggest that you don't. When I signed up, they didn't tell me that I HAD to have direct deposit or they would charge. Well, they have been charging me $10 a month FOR NOT HAVING DIRECT DEPOSIT. You have to pay for the visa logo debit card up front, and then they charge you a fee every month just for having it. There are lots of hidden fees and I wish I had known ahead of time. No other bank that I've had does this and its a puzzle as to why they do. I wonder where the fees go. I wonder why I had to pay for not having direct deposit just because I prefer to get a paper check. What if your job doesn't offer direct deposit? It's terrible and I don't plan to bank there much longer.
