The Dog Out is open again (Sept. 2007). It was closed for repairs after someone drove their car through the front of the restaurant. I'm stuck in a rut - I always order the regular hot dog or the chili dog. Next time I swear I'll try the Calabrese or Chicago Italian Sausage. The regular dog is grilled, not steamed. That nice crunch to the skin. Served on a fresh, soft bun. You polish it off with your choice of mustards, onion, relish, peppers, and/or sauerkraut. Good assortment of soft drinks. Inside and outside seating. Clean; friendly service - you feel right at home. Try it once and you'll develop cravings!
Lunches here are an incredible value. Start at $3.95 (as of 9/14/07) for soup, entree and rice. Food is fresh and nicely presented. Owners are charming and eager to please. Ignore the somewhat sleazy strip mall surroundings - it is on the corner of A and 17th - and give it a try. Newly decorated. My fav is the Tangerine Chicken.
The food here is wonderful. Tops: Apple muffins and Carne Asada sandwich. Everything organic. They're a totally Green Business - right down to the low VOC paint on the walls. Fresh produce, sustainable paper products. Wonderful catering. Open for breakfast and lunch. Try it, you'll like it!
