Quickly Tea Cafe
My usual drink at a bubble (aka boba, pearl, or tapioca) tea shop is a green milk tea with pearls. Quickly serves a very tasty version of my usual drink. On a recent visit on a warm day I indulged in a watermelon juice. What a treat! Their website lists the many drink and food choices available; check them out ahead of time to help reduce the time it takes you to select your order. The staff is very friendly. Open from 11 am - 11 pm Sunday - Thursday and 11:00 am - midnight Friday and Saturday, this is a great place to go for a drink or to meet friends.
Icing On The Cake
Anything that they make with pumpkin is wonderful, but during the fall and winter months they also make pumpkin pie bars. Flavorful, spiced pumpkin pie filling is baked onto a rich shortbread crust. Each square is an indulgent taste of pumpkin heaven. Also not to be missed is their pumpkin cake with cream cheese frosting.
International Food Bazaar
Their feta cheese selection alone is worth the trip to this wonderful market. Add to it their wide assortment of other middle eastern and greek foods and it is a true jewel. Don't miss their kalamata olives.
Flower Flour
If I'm looking for a special dessert, this is where I go. Their Flower Flour chocolate cake is a dense rich dark chocolate cake that was a hit at the recent birthday party that I brought it to.
Often I will meet friends there in the afternoon for a pot of tea, or a delicious coffee drink, along with a slice of cake or a warm cup of terrific freshly made soup. The casual tables throughout the shop make it an inviting place for a meal.
Sundowners Kennels
Although it is often tough to get a spot in this popular kennel, it is always our first choice whenever we travel. The staff is extremely attentive and is very good with our dog, who is quite large and somewhat cautious about new people. One key point about Sundowner is their "other" focus. They are one of the most respected trainers of disaster rescue dogs and therefore often have long-term boarders who are undergoing intensive training with their fabulous staff.
After leaving our dog there during a 3 1/2 week stay we were pleased to find a happy, well-adjusted pet who clearly enjoyed her stay at Sundowner. Their prices are incredibly reasonable, too!
Companion Animal Rescue Effort
When we wanted to adopt a dog, CARE (Companion Animal Rescue Effort) was where we went. The foster parent of the litter of puppies from which we ultimately adopted was incredibly helpful in guiding our family through the process of selecting the "perfect" pet for our family. Most importantly she gave us critical tips in how to transition our new puppy into our household.
If you wish to adopt a pet who has been rescued from the local animal shelter by a non-profit that is committed to finding "forever" homes for these animals, then I highly recommend CARE. Their website, www.carepets.org, contains additional information.
Booksmart
Wonderful independent bookstore that also sells unique children's toys. Originally located at the corner of Monterey and E. Second Streets in downtown Morgan Hill, they relocated down Second Street across from the train station into a larger space.
Terrific selection of magazines and a well-rounded selection of books. They also have a nice selection of autographed books acquired from their author's visits.
The staff is incredibly nice and helpful.
Mama Mia's
Whether it is pasta, chicken, pizza, seafood, veal, or terrific salads Mama Mia's is a wonderful choice for lunch or dinner. My personal favorites are the Chicken Jerusalem - sauteed artichokes, mushrooms, and a creamy white wine sauce - or the Roasted Garlic Pizza - roasted Gilroy garlic, carmelized onions, gorgonzola cheese, and Kalamata olives. Other terrific dishes include the Eggplant Parmagiana and Veal Piccata along with the Calamari appetizer.
Often busy for dinner on weekend evenings, this is a great choice for groups large and small. Call ahead for reservations.
Moon's Kitchen
We often eat here when visiting family in Morgan Hill. The food is consistently good and there are enough choices available to please all palates. Menu items are a range of Japanese, Chinese, and Korean dishes. The Chinese Chicken Salad is a favorite of everyone, even a vegetarian family member who requests it without the chicken. My personal favorite is the chicken with mushrooms. The sushi is also very good. Try any of the teriyaki dishes and you will be happy.
The combination of good service, reasonable prices, and a range of food choices makes this a terrific dining choice.
