Porcella Urban Market
What an amazing little restaurant/delicatessen! I have been going to Porcella for the better part of this year and I have not wanted to share for fear I won't be able to find a seat because the place will be packed. Well that fear stops now because I am singing it's praises! The cured meats rival that of salumi! The lamb sandwich is divine and the delicate truffled gaufrettes are the perfect pairing. I appreciate the small amount of truffle salt as the use of it is so OVERDONE in Seattle. The house-pickled vegetables are ho-hum, maybe ask for a side of the squash (with raisins and pistachios) instead, yum! I looked through the side case to take some food to go and my eyes zeroed in on "parsnips with vanilla" I had to have them! The chef obliged and heated the parsnips up. I greedily took them away and gobbled them up for lunch. The vanilla was a unique touch but the parsnips should have been roasted because they tasted waterlogged.
Overall this place is great, it just needs a little tweaking. Go Go Go!
Le Pichet
Let me just say that this restaurant has a special place in my heart. I have loved it since it first opened, it has been the only restaurant in downtown that has kept me coming back for more on a regular basis. The atmosphere is very french and be prepared to cosy up to your neighbor, all of the seats at the bar and tables are usually full. Around 12am on a Saturday night is fairly empty and you will still be served food until 2am. The smooth terrine makes me swoon and the chocolat chaud is so decadent! I feel like I am committing a mortal sin by letting the chocolate graze across my lips....the only thing that could make this drink better is a chaser of Boulard Calvados! I have had everything on the menu and more over the years and the special that stands out the most is the Brandade. Fantastic! If you happen to have room for dessert they are wonderful (the exception is the rice pudding, quite bland).
The service is so-so especially since one of the great waitress' went over to Cafe Presse. But all in all this is my favorite place to be on a cold fall evening or a breezy summer day.
Duque Salon + Spa + Boutique
I just went to Duque last week and it was my second time being pampered there. I absolutely love this place! While I have only had massages there, I would happily go for every service they have. They are a little more expensive than some places but I truly believe you get what you pay for! Have you ever been to a salon where after the massage you feel more tense than when you came in? I went to 6 or 7 different spas for massages/pedicures/waxing/manicures/facials (day and overnight) and I would happily pick Duque over all of them. The last time I went in, I had a two hour sugar/salt scrub and massage. It was fabulous! I was scrubbed and massaged by Giovanna, she was gracious, kind and gave me the most relaxing massage I have ever had! I think I stumbled out of there because I was so relaxed! The reason I gave only 4 stars is the front desk can be more than a little icy. Hire new women, they misrepresent Duque!
Gravy
I went to Gravy twice in one week because a friend had recomended it. The first time I went was pleasant. The food comes in enormous portions though so try not to order more than one thing. The second time I went was during brunch and not only was our waitress acting like she was strung out but she came by the table once. My friends and I waited for an hour for our food (the place was not full at all) when I went up to the counter to ask about our food the cooks behind the ounter were throwing pots and yelling. One of them yelled at me and told me our food was going to take 20 more min. I will never go back the food is fine but the staff is ridiculous!
La Familia Gallery
I recently purchased some artwork from La Familia and the staff was so personable. Lanae Rivers-Woods is the owner and she is anything but pretentious. I felt quite comfortable in the purchasing process. I have also gone to the gallery during events and I have always felt welcome even when I was not buying anything. Go support this artist, she truly is one of a kind!
