As its name implies, The Riverview is right on the water in Oakdale. NY, just a stone's throw from the Great South Bay. They feature an inspired menu of fresh seafood, chicken pasta, steaks, etc. On a recent visit, we feasted on their fresh seafood cocktails, oysters and baked clams. They are a bit pricey, but worth the trip if you're in the area on a visit, or are lucky enough to live close by. They also have a large bar and deck on the docks that is suitable for reunions or other large get-togethers.
On a recent trip to the Poconos, stopped by the Coffee Grinder for a "quick" breakfast. Ok, perhaps I'm not accustomed to the slower service that may be the norm in this area, but the wait was too long. We sat outside on a charming porch and were one of the few groups of people outside, but it took ages to get a cup of coffee and then our meal, several omelets and burritos, was delayed for quite a while. Once the food arrived, it was quite good and portion sizes were hearty. One of the few breakfast/lunch places in the area with excellent coffee and an expansive breakfast and lunch menu. Fairly inexpensive ($6-$12 per person) Cons - slow service.
The Holly Tree Inn is a bed and breakfast inn that is very close to Point Reyes Hiking Trails and is about one hour north of San Francisco. They even have three separate cottages in addition to the beautifully appointed rooms in the inn itself. We stayed in a two room suite cottage that was private and featured a beautiful bedroom with private bath, sitting area, small porch and basic breakfast items. They even delivered breakfast in a basket to our door in the morning. A bit pricey, but great for an occasional getaway.
We always stop off at this park when returning from Big Sur. It is located 3 miles south of Carmel off of Highway 1. It costs $8 to park and get a map of the park. Once you park, there is a picnic area and bathroom. Snack here first since you cannot eat on the beaches that you'll arrive at that are a short hike from the parking area. You'll walk up a steadily climbing path and meander around spectacular cliffs boasting a an amazing view of the ocean and rocky coves below. By the way, I would not recommend this hike for children under age 7 unless you have them in a carrier or are watching them at all times as the drop off is quite significant. Dogs are not permitted. Hike about a half mile and descend to China Beach, a beautiful oasis where kids can swim in a secluded cove. You can go back to the trail and hike further to view islands covered with thousands of birds, then loop back to the beach and finally to the parking area. Highly recommended, better than a postcard!
Hollins House is an historic building that is located just outside of downtown Santa Cruz off of Highway 17 near Pasatiempo Drive. It sits atop a hill boasting beautiful views. Their prices are a bit high so this is a place for a special evening out. We recently enjoyed their fresh seafood and salads. I believe this restaurant also hosts small to mid size event such as wedding, company outings ,etc.
We contacted Dennis Hayes of Hayes & Associates to draw up plans for a major addition and remodel of our home. He met with us several times to understand our needs then drew up three different artchitectural plans from which we chose one. We made some minor changes and proceeded to submit the plan to the county. He was reasonably priced at about $5000. We would recommend him if you want to do a professional looking addition to your home.
Le Boulanger has wonderful breads that are baked daily including Dutch Crunch, wonderful rye bread, fabulous bagels and delicious cakes, pies and pastries. This is also a great place to stop for yummy sandwiches and soups. The price for luch is about $8-$12 and although their breads are a bit pricey, they are delicious. The only drawback to this location is that it is a bit smaller than the other Boulanger that we frequent and it gets a bit crowded and you'll have a bit of a wait on weekends and other busy times. Le Boulanger is locatied right across from the park that is at the top of Main Street Los Gatos.
I always find the staff at Summerwinds to be very helpful. They can help you find just about anything you need and also give advice on plant combinations, etc. They are a bit pricier than Home Depot type places, but their service makes the difference.
We've used his services since my youngest was in Kindergarten and have always been happy with the results. His portraits seem to catch kids' personalities well.
His family portraits are very high quality and relatively reasonably priced.
