I'm always amazed at how quickly Blue Sky Cafe gets it's food out to customers...and how huge their menu is! There must be a different sandwich for every color in the rainbow! I've never had a meal there I didn't like. They've got it going on!
I think Vincenzo's has everything you're looking for in a great night out on the town. Their food is exceptional, their service is outstanding, and the fact that they have live music every night of the week is a real treat.
Gotta say I love Carrabas for it's consistent menu and amazing chicken dishes. Who doesn't like their chicken marsala or chicken brian? I always pick this restaurant on my birthday simply because it's an all-time favorite spot.
Pastabilities is a sure bet if you want to enjoy a less-crowded restaurant with basic Italian food. Located on the West Asheville strip (Haywood Road), you won't be disappointed by their fresh salads and oven baked pasta. One of my favorites is the eggplant parmesan. Their lasagne is also unique, with it's mushroom and ricotta filling. Strombolis are always a hit, as well as their steak sub with banana peppers on top. You'll almost always be seated immediately...no matter what time you arrive. A great spot on Friday night when all the other restaurants are full. Local owners are friendly and very attentive. They'll even let you book a big party there - which makes a great hangout for ball teams!
Nona Mia's is quickly becoming one of our favorite hangouts. We love the atmosphere of this cozy Italian cafe, and the wine list is nice too. The chicken piccata, lasagna and sandwiches have all been delicious. I had the filet mignon as a special dish and it was presented beautifully. The portions are not too large...but not skimpy either. I believe that their Farmhouse Pizza is the best in town. Goat cheese, spinach and tomatoes combine for a taste sensation! This is one local spot you have to visit before 6 pm if you want to be seated within a reasonable amount of time. Even still, it's always worth the wait.
Savoy is by far one of the most progressive restaurants in Asheville. The filet mignon we had on our anniversary was like no other. The service is truly a cut above, while the atmosphere is cozy and romantic. A delicious choice.
I visited Chelsea's Tea Room for the first time about 10 years ago and was blown away by their incredible luncheon fare. This is the perfect spot to gather with your girlfriends for a lovely 'girl's day out.' Their quiche is simply divine...and best when topped with their homemade chutney. I love the chicken salad too..and of course, the dillweed pasta. It's a good idea to get the sampler plate so you can taste it all, but their sandwiches & soups are equally as delicious.
Try a pot of hot tea and share it with a friend. Or better yet, visit Chelseas during afternoon tea and you'll be treated to an array of pastries, cheeses and scones served with devonshire cream. Oh my.
Don't leave without eating one of their freshly baked cakes or desserts. It's heaven on a plate...especially the Italian walnut layer cake. Fun, friendly and amazing service. A must visit in Asheville, NC!
Gosh, Cinnabare is expensive, but it's fun to be able to order food and drinks while you're watching a movie. The milkshakes are good, and the popcorn comes in a big stainless steel bowl....so there's no chance of the butter leaking through!
Papas and Beer is quickly becoming one of the busiest restaurants in Candler. The food and service is really good...especially the warm fajita salad which can't be beat. We love their salsa bar, although most of the salsas are really HOT! But, you can't beat the value and authentic dishes. This is a local hot spot, so get there early and enjoy their delicious bean dip while you wait for your meal to arrive.
