Spark Woodfire Grill

Huntington Beach, CA Italian Restaurants 12/01/07: 'Best salmon EVER'

This is a classy and romantic restaurant where most seats overlook the ocean and coming to dine just before sunset is a real pleasure. The wine list is extensive and the waiters are knowledgeable about their wines. Appetizers are excellent - the calamari particularly light and obviously created on the premises. Their salmon is the flakiest, juiciest fish I have ever had, with a light sweet glaze that accentuates its tender flavors. All their veggie sides are delicious. An appetizer and entree does not leave room for dessert, so take that into consideration when ordering. They have indoor or outdoor seating at their second floor establishment. Outdoor is heated. Parking is avaiable underground. The service is always top notch. Higher priced meals are certainly worth it. A very nice place to impress out of town guests or a date.

Crabby's Boat House

When I'm in the mood to kick back and have a few beers, I go to Crabby's. I love sitting on their patio, enjoying the ocean breeze and maybe a bread bowl of clam chowder or a cup of their seafood bisque. They have wonderful flaky crabcakes and a unique delicious twist on calamari with their thai style calamari. Recently I had their mushroom, cheddar and avocado burger (sans the meat) and it was so overflowing with the mouthwatering toppings, I couldn't imagine where they'd even fit the patty! They have a selection of beers and even a few inexpensive descent wines on the menu. Its a bit of a rowdier crowd with people smoking on the patio but you often see families inside, as well. A really fun place with really awesome food.

Coach's Mediterranean Grill

Huntington Beach, CA Restaurants 11/30/07: 'Favorite lunch spot'

This is one of my favorite places to go for lunch with a girlfriend. I love sitting on the patio to people watch. Their lentil soup is delicious and fresh. They have an appetizer plate with hummus, tabouleh, stuffed grape leaves and a bunch of other yummy tidbits that is enough to share. The Greek salad is excellent, crispy and chock full of the things you'd expect. Service is very good. Prices are reasonable. Also be sure to get their coffee - a Greek or Middle Eastern coffee that is robust and nutty.

Crab Cooker

I was told that this place had the best clam chowder. I thought it was mediocre. My fish salad (like tuna but not tuna) was simply OK. The bread was great and the service excellent. Very inexpensive. It is in a great location - nice area to walk or bike around and explore.

Starbucks

Starbucks is everywhere in the country. If you come to Huntington Beach, have a cup of coffee across the street at the Mediterranean Grill on the patio or one of the other many privately owned restaurants in the area. Sure, their coffees are good but support our local businessmen instead of the giant corporations.

Baci Restaurant

Huntington Beach, CA Restaurants 11/30/07: 'The best!'

This place serves very high quality Italian food and has a fairly extensive wine list. There are so many hot and cold appetizers, of which we have tried most and enjoyed each one. They have the best bruschetta I have ever had - with the reddest juiciest tomatoes (and I don't even usually care for uncooked tomatoes.) The portions are large and they are accommodating enough to give half portions when asked. They cannot always accommodate our vegetarian requests, however, because some of the dishes are premade and frozen and thus cannot be altered. The waiters, I swear, are right off the boat. They are all very nice gentlemen, polite and sweet and eager to be at your service. Make sure to save room for dessert, as there are so many on the menu, every one rich and delectable. The menu is moderately priced - the food well worth every penny. Baci is a very special Italian restaurant - and our favorite one in OC.

Romano's MacAroni Grill

Huntington Beach, CA Italian Restaurants 11/30/07: 'No, they don't grill macaroni'

Yes, my husband actually thought all they served were different macaronis. They have a lot of Italian items on their menu and everything I've tried was very good or excellent. They have a pasta with 3 or 4 mushrooms that melts in your mouth. They serve the wine in little glasses like your great grandmother from the old country would serve it. It is a very busy restaurant, fairly inexpensive and really good food for a chain. It is nice place to go for a casual meal and a fun place to go with a bunch of friends.

Lucci Gourmet Italian American

Huntington Beach, CA Italian Restaurants 11/30/07: 'Now that's Italian!'

This little place is hidden away in a strip mall next to a pet store and it was a long time before I noticed it. They have a nice bakery and deli section. Their homemade bread and cookies are delicious. You can buy a premade selection of their cookies that come presentable for a dinner party gift. They also have pizza dough that you roll out and cook at home. There is a little grocery section to get sauces, canned tomatoes and other appetizers and sweets. They even have a small selection of wines that are of decent quality. This place reminds me of some of the little Italian stores I used to frequent with my grandparents in my hometown.

Amelia's Seafood & Italian

Went here for an early dinner once. Lucked out and found parking right out front but the only negative thing I have to say is that parking can be horrible in this area when its busy so leave a little extra time. Now, the food was excellent. My husband and I both had the lobster ravioli in a cream sauce paired with a nice chianti. The serving size was perfect - you were pleasantly full and we managed to have a little room for dessert, which was also excellent. The ambiance was intimate and classy. The service was outstanding. The price was fair for the high quality of the food.

Mother's Market & Kitchen

11/30/07: 'Fantastic and fun'

I love shopping at Mother's. They are quite small and don't carry everything you might need on your shopping list but they have a fairly extensive inventory and many unique food items - both groceries and fresh or prepared items in their deli section. Their vegetarian meat selection is excellent - fake chicken, ribs, burgers, fish, shrimp, ground beef, ground sausage - everything I need for cooking for special occasions and parties. They also have a wide array of vegan cheeses, sour cream, mayo and cream cheese as well as tempe and tofu products. There are also many ethnic foods available. As a bonus, they also carry recycled papertowels and toilet paper and biodegradable garbage bags. I usually go into Mother's for a couple items and leave with several bags! Prices are a little high but it is worth it to be able to buy groceries that you would otherwise only find online or have to drive to other cities for.
The restaurant - almost everything I've ever ordered at the restaurant has been really yummy. It is such a pleasure to be able to get fake bacon with my breakfast or chicken dishes at luch and enjoy the meat without having to eat a dead animal. I love being able to order anything off the menu that sounds good and not worry if there is meat in it! Their soups are particularly good. Prices are inexpensive. Service is very good. One of my favorite restaurants in HB.
