Dad Watsons
I went to Dad Watsons for my birthday. It was great! I had a wonderful night, but it wasn't just the booze and friends. Dad Watsons is a great Fremont establishment. The pub has a very comfortable feel with plenty of room to spread out. The food is great--I personally recommend their Voodoo Chicken Sandwich and the Brewer's Salad--and though they brew their own beer you can get most any other beer or alcohol you desire. The servers are great and the crowd is usually chill, mid-20's and on, even on a busy Fremont Friday or Saturday.
Cyclops
Cyclops is a chill hang out. There are some booths and a few tables, not a lot of room overall, but enough to provide a good atmosphere. On the weekends it gets pretty busy and the vibe is upbeat especially at night. Otherwise, the menu is quite varied and offers a little something for everyone. They have good brunch and appetizers. The drinks aren't too expensive for Seattle.
Phase 3 by Gary Manuel Salon
Gary Manuel has a great reputation for quality hair. I have been to Phase 3 (which is their training salon) several times and have been more than pleased every time. The stylists are professional and make you feel at home. If you are tight, definitely go to Phase 3, but if you have money to burn hit up the main salon as it is very very nice. They give you great service every time and are sure to make you aware of any changes in your services as soon as they know. Parking is kind of tough, especially if you don't want to pay $5 for lot parking, but there is street parking around you just have to find it.
Chaplin's VW
I bought my VW from Chaplins and I was really happy with the service I got from them. My car was used and before they would let me take it home they did many inspections and took care of a very small ding in the door panel. I took it back there on a few occasions to have it fixed and they were great...until this summer. My cruise control had stopped working as had my radio. I made and appointment and took my car in and got a loaner car as they didn't know how long it would be. Well, 2 weeks later I still hadn't heard from them, and no one in the service department would return my messages. I finally had to call VW USA to get some service. I got my car back after 3 weeks, but it still wasn't fixed and I ended up having to take it back 2 more times! They were not great. I had been so pleased with them, but now I won't take my car back...it's too much of a hassel.
The War Room
The War Room provides many opportunities for Seattle's diverse musical genres to perform. Different nights of the week they have different music genres. It's very different because often a club/bar will get stuck on just one type of music, but the War Room has many so you can choose what night sounds best to you. The drinks are good and priced the same as most places on Capitol Hill. What you will get here is a good crowd of people who like the same music as you do in a clean and comfortable set up. There are chairs and tables around the dance floor and bar area, but they don't take up too much space and give one the feeling of sitting being an option not an obligation. There are actually 2 bars: one downstairs by the main entrance and one on the patio upstairs. The patio is really fun in the summer times!
University Volkswagen
For being in the University District (which can be a little sketchy), this VW and Audi dealership and auto service is very nice! They have great service and will provide you with a shuttle if you need to get somewhere while they have your car. I took my car in to fix the paint job because it had been scratched by another car. They were great! They fixed my car in record time and only charged as much as they quoted. I really enjoyed their staff too. They were very helpful!
R Place
2: This is a gay bar... R Place is typical fare on Capitol Hill. It's consistently crowded and for good reason. The drinks are good and the patrons are friendly (mostly) and happy hour is from 4 to 7 daily! There are theme nights and they have costume contests on Halloween etc. Though it is generally a gay club/bar, everyone is welcome! Nothing is cheap, but happy hour there is pretty rad!
Ram Cafe & Sports Bar
There is now a Ram at Northgate. It is much less crowded than the one in the U Village, but the clientel are the same. I love their burgers: every single one is HUGE and so flavorful. The rest of their entrees are overpriced (usually $15-20) and not as great as their burgers. If you're with a few people, definitely get the appetizer combo platter. The drinks are good too, but certainly on the pricey side as well.
The Bit Saloon
The title pretty much says it all. If you're looking for local color, cheap booze, games, and lottery tickets this is the place to go. It's not the classiest or cleanest joint, but it gets you where you want to go! The bar tenders are friendly as are the regular customers. It's a fun place for someone on their 21 run--people will get very excited for you and often buy you a drink!
Ballard Blossom Incorporated
Ballard Blossom was amazing! I had just gotten accepted to medical school and, as always, was very busy and still wanted to thank my advisors. Ballard Blossom is open early, I went in and they put together three beautiful bouquets AND found me great cards and included the gift cards I had bought! The flowers aren't cheap (but are any flowers today?) but they're beautiful!!! They have an extensive online selection that includes gift baskets, vases, and plants.
