Chick's Drive Inn
CHick's drive in is a great place for some old time atmosphere and some good deep fried seafood. The service is okay and the joint is usually always jumping on weekends.
Pilgrim's Bar-B-q
Pilgrim's gives you a great meal at a great value. Their chicken is out of this world as is their potato salad and cole slaw. I believe they make it all fresh right there. The only problem is their location on Main Street in Ansonia where there is only on street parking.
Durgin Park
Durgin Park is a great place to go to see old time Boston. Food is served family style at long tables on the second floor of this really old restaurant. It's all New England style and it's fun. If you have never been there, you should give it a try.
Skylight Diner Inc
The Skylight Diner is excellent. The service is fast and attentive. The food was excellent and served hot as it came out. That means not everyone gets their food at the same time but they all get it hot. Everything was fresh and I would return here anytime I was nearby.
Mars 2112
Mars 2112 is a great place to take kids to once. To get into the restaurant you take a theme park like ride on a motion simulator (not for the queasy) that lands you on Mars. The dining room is decorated to look like you are there on the Red Planet. The food is very conventional and expensive for what you get but you are paying for the ambience. Take note, you do not have to take the rocket back to earth... there is a transporter to take you back after you have eaten.
Zois Pizza Palace
Zois pizza is okay. The crust is a little thicker than I like it but the taste makes up for it. The service is always good and the place is very casual... a perfect place to take children.
Johns Pizzeria
John's Pizza is the best. It's right across from the Phamtom Theatre, in the heart of the broadway theatre district. The place is huge but it still pays to get there early as it is very popular. The satff is great. The service is fast and the food is excellent. The pizza is real thin crust and very tasty.
One time that we were there we were late for eating before the matinee and since a 15-year-old can't eat at the bar, they let us order through the bar and eat at the benches they have for people waiting for a table. I think that is service above and beyond.
Villa Roma Resort Hotel
I could see some of the old charm of the place but the sad story is that many of the hotels in this area are in sad repair. I was told the food would at least be good but it wasn't. We were there for a convention and the banquet hall is set up in such a way that other guests had to cross in front of our speakers to leave the room. Not a place I would recommend.
Nevele Grande
I'm sorry to say that many of the hotels in this area are just tired and sad. When we were there they were fixing up some parts of the hotel. Unfortunately, this was the area we were in and it was noisy and generally unpleasant. We were with a group and many of our rooms were not clean when we arrived and went to them and when we complained, nothing was done. Not a place I would return to.
Nevele Saddle Club & Stables
We stayed at the Nevele a year or so ago and we scheduled a trail ride through the hotel. They bused us over to the Saddle Club. The horses looked well cared for and the stable area was very nice. The ride itself was okay but the trails were not breathtakingly beautiful... it was just nice.
