Bro's Cajun Cuisine

Nashville, TN Cajun Restaurants 01/26/08: 'Authentic Cajun'

If you're looking for authentic New Orleans-style fare, THIS is the place to go. You won't find fancy digs -- quite the opposite -- but you DO get fresh, homemade red beans and rice, stellar gumbos, steaming po' boys and some of the best fried potatoes this side of grandma's house. If you're looking to satisfy a craving for Cajun, skip the fancy alternative(s) and head for Charlotte Ave. You won't be disappointed.

Goldies Deli

Nashville, TN Delis - Nashville, TN Caterers 01/26/08: 'Great New York-style Deli'

NOTE: Goldie's has MOVED from Harding Pike. It's now located at 4501 Murphy Rd (off of West End in Sylvan Park).

You won't go wrong with a visit to Goldie's. Breakfast basics are delivered hot, fresh and with a smile. Try the homemade blintzes for a special treat. Also, not to be missed is "Chicken in the Pot", a soup of a meal -- homemade stock, chicken, fresh vegetables, noodles and stellar matzo balls.

Da Vinci's Gourmet Pizza

Nashville, TN Pizza Restaurants 01/26/08: 'Fabulously Fresh Pizza'

This isn't Papa John's... Offering eat-in and carry-out options, Davinci's pizza has a flaky, crispy, medium-thick crust, freshly cut toppings and quality meats and cheeses. The menu offers a variety of suggested combinations, or you can make your own. It's popular with the Vandy crowd and takes time to prepare, so bring your patience if you're dining in, but you won't be sorry when the pie arrives. Great for large groups. Well-packaged for carry out, and promise times are generally very accurate.

Virago

Nashville, TN Restaurants 01/26/08: 'Great sushi'

Virago's uber-hip environment also offers up some of the most unique and fresh sushi in town. If you find yourself in the Music Row area and have a hankering, give it a try. It gets pretty busy as the evening rolls on, so arrive early if you don't want a wait.

Monell's Dining & Catering

Nashville, TN Restaurants 01/26/08: 'Diversified Appeal'

If you're trying to please a crowd, looking for a place "picky" eaters will be satisfied, and enjoy Southern-style comfort food, this is the place. The all-you-can-eat, family style service is also great when you have folks with big appetites. The fried chicken is not to be missed. Try it -- you'll definitely like it.

Couva Calypso Cafe

Nashville, TN Restaurants 01/20/08: 'Very good option for a quick meal'

Calypso does a great job of turning out inexpensive, island-inspired fare, very quickly. Their homemade sauces, dressings and side items are miles better than anything available at chain fast-food options and infinitely healthier. Their chicken is the best when they're busiest -- on slower days, it can overcook while awaiting purchase. Given the rating system of "world class" for 5 stars, I can't place it there, but it is the place I go when looking for a reliable, tasty and healthy last-minute take out option.

Woodlands

I was shocked to find this excellent, authentic, though all vegetarian, gem in Nashville's Vanderbuilt area. If you're having a hankering for Indian fare, this is a must try. You won't miss the meat!

Cafe Nonna

Nashville, TN Restaurants 01/20/08: 'Quaint, neighborhood spot - don't miss it'

Offering authentic, fresh Italian-inspired fare and at least two daily specials (typically one seafood and one meat), an extensive wine list (no liquor) and tasty desserts, you won't go wrong with a visit to this Sylvan Park charmer. The space is cozy, so reservations are recommended. Don't shy away from the patio -- it's well heated in winter -- and subject to the same welcoming service from the wonderful waitstaff.
