Sabrina's Cafe
We went here shortly when my youngest baby (now 7 months) was about a week old. I was surprised at how small and homey it was - I had heard great things about Sabrina's and thought it would be flashier. The coffee was great and our server was adorable. The stuffed French toast (nuts, berries, cream cheese, etc.) was delicious, but after about 5 bites it was just *too much.* My husband's burrito was kind of flavorless. I was surprised at how many folks were in there mid-morning on a weekday. I'd happily go back!
Upstares At Varalli
I think my server said, "Pardon my reach" about 30 times, but he was quick and about the nicest guy ever. The mozzarella appetizer is excellent, as is the potato gnocchi. Great wine list, gorgeous view of the Kimmel center.
Carmela's Dance Studio
Carmela's been dancing for years and years and her school is small and sweet and filled with love. My twins were in her "baby" class this year and they had an absolute blast. Carmela's rates are affordable, and she was open and willing to work with us when we had a financial setback so that the girls wouldn't miss classes. Her assistants are sweet and the other teachers are great. It's very obviously a family business, and her family is the greatest!
Incredibly Edible Delites Inc
Incredibly Edible Delites makes arrangements out of fruit. Instead of sending flowers, you can send an arrangement of flower-shaped fruit cutouts - skewers and more skewers and even more skewers of flower shaped pineapple pieces, cantaloupes, etc.
It leaves a lot to be desired, especially when the fruit is out of season and they're still making these things anyway. I've been on the receiving end of them for the births of each of my kids, and each and every time the pineapple has been decent and the rest of the fruit has been under-ripe and not so tasty.
Rizzieri Aveda School-Beauty
Rizzieri's a great place to go if you're like me and you just get frustrated by the fact that nails need to be done over and over. I hate paying top dollar for a manicure that I end up chipping a day or two later, but at Rizzieri, you get good work done at a good price.
Terme Di Aroma Inc
I had a decent massage at Terme, but the spa itself is a little weird - after you get changed, you go into the calming waiting area to wait for your therapist. It's fine; you can have tea or juice, but they had, like, pizelles from BJs on the bar, too. Holistic pizelles? The massage was great - hot towels at the end, aromatherapy, the whole deal. I didn't love that I had to go down into the basement of the place to get to the massage room.
The time I had a facial, though, was a different story - the aesthetician smelled like smoke and a hoagie and I regretted not getting up and leaving.
Monks Belgian Cafe
Great mussels, great beers, great fries, great atmosphere. I think that really says it all! The bartenders are great, and the ambiance is dim without feeling dark, cozy without feeling crowded.
Yoga Garden
The prenatal yoga classes with Kim are fantastic - you can pay as you go or register ahead of time for a series. The space is lovely - right in the heart of adorable Narberth. Parking is pretty easy to find during the Saturday class, and it's such a relaxing space. Kim tailors her class to the gestational ages of the babies in the class - as I got really close to being due, she was very helpful in having us do a lot of squats & pelvic opening poses.
East Eagle Yoga
I really like the actual classes at East Eagle yoga - the teachers are nice, the times are convenient. I was a little bummed when I was pregnant that they didn't offer any sort of prenatal and/or mom&baby classes. But the location is *terrible!* The gauzy curtains over the windows do little to offer privacy from the street and the studio is really narrow, making a more crowded class feel even tighter. Parking right there is awful - you have to go around the corner to the municipal lot, which isn't really that big. Their pricing is fine, and because I live so close I'll happily keep going there, but it's a shame that they don't have better space.
Pilates and More, a Carol Beringer Studio
Pilates and more recommends that you take a few private sessions before attending a group class, but at $75/pop it was something I was unable to do. The classes are challenging - but they rotate what you do in class so that even if you can only go during one time slot, you vary your workout. (I've only ever taken mat pilates there!)
Their studio is gorgeous - the location in Wayne is really convenient, and parking is ample.
