The service here is fantastic. The margarita's are really good too. I've gotten the chicken wet burrito and chicken enchiladas before. My husband always gets the beef. This is a great place to take people that are from out of town because the ambiance is really interesting and the service is great. Prices are very reasonable too. I couldn't give Pepe's 4-stars though because, to me, the food is just ok. It's good.. it's slathered in cheese if that's your thing, but when it comes to Mexican I'm pretty picky. I like fresh tasting food. The salsa & chips are great though!
This is a review of the one on Broad St.. haven't been to the one on Foothill yet. Finally, delicious food at a reasonable price. I've had several burritos and tacos here and have never been disappointed. The food is delish!! The fish is actually fresh. The ingredients are fresh as well and they grill a lot of there food AND it's still super tasty.. no need to fry anything. Highly Recommend Chilie Peppers for take out only though.. the restaurant itself is very old and in need of a facelift. The booths are so old there color is super faded and I'm guessing they were originally red. Don't let the lackluster ambiance fool you though - GREAT fresh, grilled Mexican food... and I'm from San Diego so I'm pretty picky.
I won't go back to Ben Franklin's. I went there with a friend and got the turkey sub. The only thing I was impressed with was the actual size of the sandwich... they're huge. However, the bread was plain and not good, the turkey was ok, lots of lettuce and LOTS of onions. Sandwich was not good. Nothing special... I think my turkey sandwiches at home taste better. Don't recommend this place.
The buckwheat pancakes are super delicious. My husband got eggs, sausage and pancakes that he also loved. The service is mediocre at best and the restaurant needs some serious renovating, but our breakfast was delicious. Prices are just ok.. probably a little high considering the rundown nature of the diner. It cost me about $10 (I think) for a 3-stack of large buckwheat pancakes with strawberries. They charged me $2.75 for strawberries - a bit much in my opinion but again... pancakes were goooooood!
