I was a skeptic about bringing baseball to York at first. But we attended some York Revolution baseball games this summer at the new Sovereign Bank Stadium, and we had a great time. What a change from the huge pro games - you really felt like your kids could safely walk around and get some food, and not get lost. It's the site for other downtown events too, like First Night York (now First Revolution) on New Year's Eve. I'm happy that people pushed for this community venue. It's something everyone can enjoy.
We don't get to Haydn Zugs often. We save it for ultra-special occasions. It is a fine-dining restaurant, but one where you feel comfortable dressing up, or coming a little more casual. The food is just excellent. And the atmosphere is really charming - set in a rustic home/general store that must be about 150 years old - it's located on what is probably considered the "square" of East Petersburg in Lancaster County. The tables are set with lots of pewter pieces and the service is top-notch. Be prepared to pay much more than your usual "night out" but it's worth it! Everyone needs to experience Haydn Zugs at least once!
When I lived in Lancaster, I loved to go to Rockvale. I moved quite awhile ago, but when I need lots of great gifts fast (like at Christmastime), I take a trip to Rockvale. They have all of my favorite stores, and I can always find good bargains. Best of all, shopping these stores will always spur great gift ideas that you can't find at a mall.
Christmas Tree Hill at Rockvale Square Outlets is a wonderful experience. They have so many home decor ideas, and their prices are wonderful. I always say shopping here is "dangerous" because I just can't walk out without buying something.
A business that I used to be part-owner of came across some large display pieces that we wanted to keep on hand, but didn't have room to store. So we rented space from Moove In! It was conveniently located - just between my business partner's home and mine. They have someone in the office who is friendly and helpful, and their locking system is secure. I would recommend Moove In to anyone who needs a convenient and secure storage facility.
Palasta is a nice alternative to fast food when you're in hurry and have to grab dinner quickly. They have an all-you-can-eat pizza, pasta and salad buffet. You just pay for the buffet and your drink, grab a plate and eat. I like their dessert pizzas - especially the chocolate chip.
The Golden Carriage is a small shop in Dover that is really friendly and helpful. They always do nice work, and they are always willing to help in a pinch. I've already called them last minute for presentation flowers after performances, as well as boutinerre (sp?) that I have forgotten to order. They always come through. Before going to one of the larger chain florists in York, I'd suggest trying Golden Carriage. They are right in our hometown and it is really convenient to have them there...so support them. They won't let you down.
We have oil heat. Gas was not available in our neighborhood when it was built. We have stuck with oil heat an have relied on Shipley for our oil the last 10-15 years. They are reliable with their delivery and we have always gotten great service from them. And I see from their website that they are now supplying BioHeat which is a cleaner burning fuel oil that works with our existing furnace.
We love to go to Sunoco Theatre, which is located inside of Whitaker Science Center. It's a great venue for bands. We've seen The Rippingtons, Todd Rundgren, and quite a few others. It's large enough to seat a decent amount of people, but small enough that no matter which seat you have, you can still see and hear really well. We're thinking of going to see Asia soon. And The Rips are coming back too. If you're into ballet or cirque-de-solel kind of stuff, they offer that too. Check out their season online.
This is a nice place to shop. They have some really great stores like Old Navy, Bali, Christmas Tree Hill, Bass, and the stores my daughter likes like Aeropostle and lots of other favorites. We like to stop here in the summer for a special trip - not that far of a drive, but too far to shop there on a regular basis, so it's a change of pace.
