New Orleans is located downtown, overlooking the river. Although a nice location, the restaurant is in bad shape. The interior is old and worn out. The food was terrible and the service was satisfactory at best. If you want to take your grandparents out for a tasteless dinner with a nice view -- New Orleans is the place. Otherwise, try somewhere else.
Cupcake was the first cupcake shop I had ever been to and it was fabulous. Located at the edge of the main King St. shopping area, Cupcake has come a long way since my first trip. I used to easily get in and get out. Now there is always a line. But for good reason. With flavors like Chocolate Almond and Rocky Road -- you will not be able to pick just one.
Although not the best cupcakes I have had -- Cupcake is definitely a must hit while in Chas.
Babies is one of the coolest pet stores I have ever been in. This place carries some of the most unique pet toys, accessories, clothing and more. Located in the heart of trendy Hayes Valley -- Babies is worth a look. If you love your pet -- Babies is THE place to be.
They also have an online shop at www.babiessf.com.
Although not one of the hip pet stores popping up, Noe Valley Pet Company is a real neighborhood shop that cares about local pets. They have excellent products and if you are looking to adopt a pet, they always have signs up from locals looking to sell or give away dogs and cats. They also allow lots of lost and found signs. They care and it shows.
This restaurant tries way too hard to be something it isn't. If you want to be overpriced and trendy, locating yourself in suburbia isn't the way to go. The food is okay at best, but for the cost -- it should be much better. My fish wasn't very good. My companion's was okay.
Tip: If they ask if you want tap or spring water -- unless you want to spend $6 for a bottle of sparkling spring water (which is what I ended up with when I said I wanted spring), go with the tap. They really screw you over.
Located in the heart of the Castro, Orphan Andy's offers good diner food at really good prices. The service is totally cool and friendly. I'd just recommend not using the "facilities."
Orphan Andy's is open 24/7!!
Le Colonial is a very lovely restaurant in a very interesting location. The decor is very unique -- reminded me of Casablanca. However, the food was not as good as I had anticipated. I will say the Cha Gio Chay were excellent, but our main courses were lacking flavor. Service was good. I might try again. Nice place for a first date.
I have been to ADOC twice. The first time was an okay experience. The merchandise was nice, although nothing I haven't seen before, but the service was lacking. On the second occassion, the service was downright rude. I walked around the entire store twice and the two people working there never said a word to me (and the shop is small). I was so offended that I left and went to the Three Dog Bakery a few blocks down King St.
The shop isn't good enough for such an ignorant lack of attention.
Kilwin's is located in the Market and should not be missed. They make the most amazing fudge, chocolate covered apples, pralines and ice cream. The service is always friendly and they are open late. So when strolling around the Holy City -- stop in at Kilwin's.
Coast is located on what reminds me of a rue in Paris. At night it is even better. Coast has a delightful menu, although not the best seafood I have had in Charleston. I recommend the Buffalo Style Shrimp.
The service is very good and the prices are in line with the overall restaurant. Not the greatest in Chas, but very good.
