Celebration Market

Dallas, TX Fast Food/Take Out 02/20/08: 'Celebration has the BEST Home Cooking'

Celebration Market is the "to go" site just east of the Celebration Restaurant. They had such an incredible demand for ready to heat and eat to go food that they took over the building to their east side. Actually they've been doing that for about 30+ years. When I first went, it was a tiny place with only six or so tables but it has grown incredibly since then. Back in the '70's there were such long waits for a table that they had a leather shop next door so customers could shop while they waited. That was nice but more tables were more important so that house was joined to the original one and Celebration grew to meet demand. Now there's even a big outdoor patio which is nice in almost all weather since it's heated and has misters to cool the summers. The bar is large and friendly for waiting or you can be served there if you'd like. Go alone or with a dozen or two friends and you'll find the staff friendly and ready to accommodate your needs. The food is served family style and refills are free on all but fish specials. The salad is the best in the world...I'll demand that I eat it for my last meal with the Cucumber dressing if I know when I'm going to die. The breads are great and are served with real butter or that other stuff if you want it. All of the entrees are cooked home style like you "wish" your Mother had cooked! The restaurant has grown unbelievably over the years but the quality has never changed. It's still as comfortable as it was in the beginning...the hippies who started it have grown up, but you'd never know that anything has changed. I've heard that the desserts are to die for but I'm always too full to eat one. Someday I'll go just to have dessert so I can try it. Be sure to drop by the Market which is across the parking lot to the east....lots of wonderful ready to eat items are in there...take them home and pretend that you made it yourself! The price is worth what you pay because of the freshness and quality of the ingredients. You won't be disappointed. If there is a problem with anything, it will be taken care of on the spot. I'd eat there every day if I could!

Kuby's Sausage House Inc

Dallas, TX Delis - Dallas, TX Butchers - Dallas, TX Caterers - Dallas, TX German Restaurants 02/20/08: 'Like stepping into a German village....'

Kuby's is the absolute best authentic German food in Dallas! It's a legend among those who appreciate real German cuisine. There are even deli and general grocery items and authentic German candies which cannot be found elsewhere in Dallas and the restaurant is awesome for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Family atmosphere is comfortable for everyone. They're always busy despite the fact that I can't find a sign outside which says that it's Kuby's restaurant. They obviously don't need a sign. Be prepared to wait but know that you'll be glad you went.

Panda Express

Dallas, TX Caterers - Dallas, TX Chinese Restaurants 02/20/08: 'Not your typical Chinese Food'

The Chow Mein is the best!! You can get fried rice or steamed rice with your entrees but it's the Chow Mein that keeps me going back for more. I'm allergic to bell pepper so that keeps me from eating any of their colorful dishes but I've heard that they are good. They don't make anything really spicy but you can spice it up with hot sauce or chilies if you want. The veggies and meats are incredibly fresh and the entrees are being prepared one wok at a time which keeps the food line filled and always fresh. Service is great when they're really busy but don't go when it's slow...they scale down to one person on the line and it can take much longer. The servings are ample for the price, it's not a great bargain but the quality and freshness of the food makes it worth the price. It's a comfortable setting with brightly colored decor. Kids love it and they're kid friendly but the to go orders are great too. The egg rolls are very crisp and good and the sweet and sour sauce is wonderful. I need to try the soups next time. I hear they're good. My favorite is Orange Chicken with Chow Mein.

India Palace Restaurant & Bar

Dallas, TX Caterers - Dallas, TX Indian Restaurants 02/20/08: 'You'll think you're in India....'

The curry and spices waft through the air as you are being seated. The buffet is a wonderful way to experience a variety of the Indian cuisine at a nominal price. Service is always gracious, the atmosphere is very relaxing and comfortable and the table cloths and napkins are high quality so don't arrive in your work clothes. It's not formal, but it's very nice! It's not all vegetarian either but there's no beef! I can't begin to describe the foods that I've eaten there because there's no American food to compare with it but I'd be very sad if I couldn't make my monthly visit to experience the amazing food at India Palace. I plan it and drive a long distance to get there but it's always worth it. Try some of everything and see how you like it. You can go back for more if you're still hungry.

eatZi's Market & Bakery

The deli has a great selection of salads, pasta dishes, meats, veggies and even build yourself omelettes and salads. They have cold foods which are ready to eat or take with you to heat and eat, hot foods and sandwiches galore. The cheese selection is amazing and there's plenty of fresh fruit and veggies. The freshly baked breads are great. There are drinks from all over the world, soft and with alcohol, wines and even fresh cut flowers. Don't go looking for bargains other than the free samples of the items they sell, but do go to find great quality and fresh food which is better than normal. There are tables outside on the porch so you can enjoy your meal there or take it with you. It's always crowded but there are lots of friendly servers and cashiers who will whisk you on your way quickly. If there's something you'd like to try without buying it first, just ask...they'll happily give you a sample. Every trip there is an adventure but that's what makes it worth it to drive across town to get there!

Two Sisters To Go

Dallas, TX Ethnic Food Stores 02/20/08: 'Unique flavors in very attractive presentations'

Two Sisters has catered a number of events I've attended....alas, I've yet to have one of their sit down dinners but have sampled their finger foods at several events....the hors d' oeuvres they serve are all delicious and not at all typical of anything I've eaten before. They use special herbs and spices to liven up what they serve. Their food and the serving platters are artfully done. I've not been the one to pay so I don't know their prices but I'll bet it's a bargain when you consider the quality of what they serve. Their spicy tea is better than any punch or other refreshing drink I've had. Forget the mimosas and wine, give me that tea! There's a personal touch in every aspect of the catering which this pair of sisters does.

Dickey's Barbecue Pits

Dallas, TX Caterers - Dallas, TX Barbeque Restaurants 02/20/08: 'This is the Real Deal!!'

Barbecue doesn't get any better than what you get at this Dickey's Barbecue Pit restaurant. This was the first Dickey's Barbecue Pit and it will always be the best! The legend began here and it gets better all the time. You can feel the history and can enjoy the laid back ambiance as you devour the best barbecue you've ever eaten. The veggies and the pies are awesome too. The price is great and you even get to keep the big yellow Dickey's cup that your drink comes in. I use mine all the time and consider it bragging rights because I eat there. We got a Cajun fried turkey there for Christmas dinner and it was great. Dickey's offers a lot more than just great barbecue. In the winter, I'm hooked on the chili...I can't make it that good, and I make great chili. Family oriented but you'll see business people as well from laborers to those who arrive in silk suits. Everyone who knows great food knows about this Dickey's Barbecue store!

Dickey's Barbecue Pits

Dallas, TX Caterers - Dallas, TX Barbeque Restaurants 02/20/08: 'Barbecue in a gas station....'

This location serves the same great barbecue but the service isn't up to Dickey's standards because you're dealing with the gas station employees and not just Dickey's employees who are normally the friendliest and best you could ask for....the food items offered are limited but they have all of the best sellers and the quality of the food is totally top notch. The nice thing is that you can use the drive up window if you're getting it to go. I much prefer the restaurants with the serving line to this little hole in the wall but if it's the closest place to get a Westerner and the best potato salad in the world, I'll go there.

Dickey's Barbecue Pits

Dallas, TX Caterers - Dallas, TX Barbeque Restaurants 02/20/08: 'Family owned barbecue'

This location is Ross Perot's favorite because he used to work across the street. He's talked about it on national TV. All of the Dickey's stores are comfortable and the food is great but there's something special about the Forest Lane store and the original store on Henderson at Central Expressway. You feel the "family"
touch in these two locations more than others. For the best and tenderest smoked meat, the spiciest sauces, the most incredible home cooked veggies, great chili, awesome sandwiches and plate lunches, check out Dickey's. They've been doing it right for a lot of years. My mother's family ate at the original store on Central Expy and Henderson starting back in the 1940's and I've been hooked on it since I moved here in 1972.... it's the only barbecue I'll eat in Dallas. The price is right for the ample servings you get....and when you're finished with your meal, if you can find room for it, there's soft serve ice cream that you can serve yourself. Yummy!!

Sol's Nieto Mexican Grill

Dallas, TX Mexican Restaurants 02/20/08: 'Very good Tex Mex and authentic Mexican food'

Sol's is a very relaxed place to eat and so easy to get to at Mockingbird and Abrams. The chips and salsa are great to munch while you read the menu but save room for the wonderful meals. I've eaten breakfast, lunch and dinner at Sol's and can't decide which I like best...I think it's all of them. The food comes out fresh and hot...the servings are large and the quality of the ingredients is excellent. The service is sometimes a bit slow but is never bad! There's an outside patio which is open during good weather but it's been taken over by cigarette smokers...the inside is smoke free though. It's a very friendly family place and great for dates too. You can cozy up together in one of the booths or sit at a table. There are TV's so you can watch sporting events if that's what you want, but the restaurant seems to draw lots of folk who like to chat who linger long after their meals are over...it's very comfy so you feel at home. I typically eat the authentic Mexican dishes, the house specials and leave the Tex Mex to those who like it but I've enjoyed every meal I've eaten there. The bar can mix up pretty much anything you want and there is a great selection of cold beers along with the non-adult beverages if that's your choice. Try the desserts too...they're great!
