Island Bound Bookstore is now located in the new post office building. They have a great selection of all kinds of books. I particularly focus in on the authors who write about Block Island. You must visit the shop if and when you visit the Block.
They are the only hardware store on Block Island. Anything you can think of that you need for your home from electrical, plumbing, paints, small appliances, automotive they have it all. It is the best little store.
The Ice Cream place has homemade hot fudge and waffle cones which are delicious. They are located on Welden's Way across from Aldo's restaurant, bakery and ice cream shops. We are torn when we go for ice cream because both establishments are wonderful.
The gallery is located next to the Empire Theatre on Water Street right in the center of town. Malcolm Greenaway has a large selection of beautiful Block Island photographs and posters. Take a stroll through his gallery and you may find something that catches your eye.
Finn's has excellent seafood. Block Island swordfish is one of my favorites. In the summer they serve on the upper and lower decks and you can get a wonderful view of old harbor. Very kid friendly. Finn's was Yankee Magazine Editor's Pick for 2001 and 2003. A must for lunch or dinner when you visit Block Island.
Captian Bill Gould and his crew showed our family a wonderful 1st time experience in the Summer of 2007. We chartered the boat for a 1/2 day deepsea fishing trip and had an outstanding time. We caught blue fish and bass. Captain Gould has been in business since 1982. He's been in business 25 years on the Block!
We requested a quote for the trim on our home from Moffitt Painting which was VERY expensive. We got a second opinion which was $7,000. cheaper than Moffitt Painting. They probably do great work, but their price quotes are over the top. We went with the second price quote from the other company and are very pleased with the outcome of the job.
New England Airlines is used by Block Islanders and vacationers. They have been in business since 1970. It is Block Island's Resident Airline which has year round service. Many folks use them for transportation.
We have known Liz/the owner of Distant Shoes since 1993. She is very personable. My husband purchased my Block Island necklace, that I charish, from Liz back in 1997. She is very good to our kids. Recently she gave each of us a rock paperweight with Block Island carved into it. Very generous. Great jewelry, gifts and candles. The stained glass pieces she has for sale a gorgeous. She has a central location right on Water Street. Everyone strolls past because it is right where the ferry lands.
We love going to have breakfast at Bethany's. You sit on stools at the counter. Our children love watching the planes land and take off. The staff is very friendly and they treat you like family. One pancake fills an entire dinner plate. A definite stop when you visit Block Island.
