Child & Family Counseling Grp

Fairfax, VA Psychologists 02/26/08: 'What would we have done without them?'

I can't speak about all the staff in this group because we've only dealt with two, but about these two I can say that our son would probably not be alive today without their help. Dr. David Clayton and therapist Peter Gross are simply the best. They helped our son, and they helped the whole family. Frankly, we've seen other therapists and counselors and some of them seemed as though they themselves should be institutionalized. Clayton and Gross are firm, kind, compassionate and extremely competent.

Rustico

Alexandria, VA American Restaurants 02/26/08: 'Nice place, good food, pricey, nasty manager'

We were enjoying a nice meal at this new place in north Alexandria and overheard some guy giving hell to the wait staff and receptionists. They all looked young and forlorn and he was so nasty. It completely ruined our dinner. We left, vowing never to return unless we hear that this rude manager -- "Jason" -- is no longer there. He could have lectured them elsewhere, or more quietly, and he certainly could have been more polite to this group of cute kids who were obviously doing a good job anyway. At least our waitress was, and the little receptionists were real sweet.

Glassman Bruce D Md - Capital Dermatology

Dr. Glassman is a little brusque and you always have to wait in the crowded waiting room -- but it's really worth it. He's a sensational dermatologist -- and results are what counts.

New Look Hair & Nail Salon

Alexandria, VA Beauty Salons 02/26/08: 'Terrific stylists here'

This is a little shopping center salon, similar to the Hair Cuttery type of place. But you can really count on the stylists there to give a terrific hair cut. Especially Naji and Karima. It's not cheap -- my last cut/blow dry was $48, but the cut is so great, it lasts longer than most, so it's worth it.

A Show of Hands

Alexandria, VA Misc. Retail Stores 02/26/08: 'An amazing place...something wonderful everywhere you look!'

I'm afraid to take my purse with me into this store because I'm afraid I'll spend too much... every kind of handmade object you can imagine is here... and many things you would never imagine. It's nice to know that, as you buy unique gifts, you are also helping local artists. Each item usually has a tag telling you something about the piece and the artist. I love this store!

Del Ray Animal Hospital

We've been going to Dr. Farrell ever since shortly after Del Ray Animal Hospital was started. He is the vet everyone wants: extremely competent and up-to-date on all the latest medical research; thoughtful and compassionate both to animals and their owners; able to give excellent explanations of illnesses and procedures without ever being patronizing or condescending. He clearly loves animals, and they love him. He's simply the best.

Gwu Medical Faculty Associates

Washington, DC Gynecologists & Obstetricians 02/26/08: 'Best ob/gyn team possible'

The physicians on this team, including their residents and interns, delivered all three of our children and have been my doctors for over 20 years. Their standard of medical care is the highest -- GW is a well-regarded teaching hospital and these doctors are always at the top of their game. In addition to their medical qualifications -- which are most important, after all -- I have found every one I have dealt with to be courteous and compassionate. Over the years I have had several favorites -- some have moved on to other positions. Dr. Larson -- a truly amazing character and outstanding ob/gyn -- has always been the best for me. He is also the expert on pre-natal testing -- which he did for all three of our children. The staff is friendly and the attending physicians set a tone of kindly competence, which is followed by all the medical staff. As mentioned in a previous review, the fact that this is a teaching hospital means that you will sometimes be examined by interns and medical students -- though you can request not to be. But I can live with that, knowing that the next generation of ob/gybns will be taught at the highest level. Maybe they will be the ones delivering my grandchildren! It's the least I can do.

Childrens National Medical Center

Washington, DC Hospitals - Washington, DC Pediatricians - Washington, DC General Practice Physicians 02/26/08: 'This is Children's Pediatricians and Associates -- the best'

We have had this team as our children's pediatricians for over 22 years, since our eldest was born. They used to be part of the GWU Medical Faculty Associates, but it's the same group. That we still go to them with our youngest, now 16, shows our views of them. From when our children were infants through every stage until they started to move on to adult physicians, these doctors and nurses have been unfailingly attentive, compassionate and even endearing. The standard of medical care is absolutely the highest -- and they have seen us through countless illnesses and accidents. The admin staff is friendly and helpful too. Four of the doctors and two of the nurses have been there so long that they used to be able to hold our oldest child on the laps for closeup examinations. He is now 22. They are simply the best and it will be a sad day for us when all of our three children have moved on beyond pediatrics.
