Amoeba Music
A fun place to browse if you dig being around the sights and sounds of music and the Hollywood scene. But go during the week and before noon if possible to have first crack at collectible albums and CDs, though they do put some stuff out during the day. Every morning they make sure the bins are neat and fully stocked. Friday night and Saturday afternoon the store is usually crowded and picked over. The stage is awesome and sound system decent. I've caught some great live acts performing free in store. They could use more listening stations for CDs. Knowledgeable workers can be very helpful if you have a question. Some DVD prices seem a bit high. Lately books section hasn't had any of the rare music related titles I'm seeking or rare posters I'm looking for either but they do show up. Was looking for a new Country artist Gary Lee Michael who charted in Billboard some years ago on an indie label plus won a bunch of Nashville awards. Anyhow, now he's making waves again with a new indie release. I couldn't find artist Gary Lee Michael anywhere at Amoeba. Then I found out it was cause his new product isn't out till late April! 2008! They are on top of all that is musical. Pick up a pamphlet where the employees rate new product. It's free and you can possibly learn something new.
North Figueroa Animal Hospital
I've been taking my two pound puppies to North Figueroa Animal Hospital for 10 years! Unfortunately North Figueroa Animal Hospital burnt down but has finally been rebuilt and is back open. I'm happy about that. One of my dogs was from the Downtown LA Animal Shelter and the other from Burbank Animal Shelter. I've been to many Vets. The Vet that neutered one of my dogs (located in Glendale), kept me waiting and tried to upsell me some items I didn't need. He was also very unfriendly. Previously I'd also gone to upscale Vets in Larchmont Village on Larchmont Blvd (Very expensive and they tried to upsell me services I didn't need) and Valley Village on Laurel Canyon (where you wait very long even though hardly anyone is waiting to be seen and the prices were awful plus they kept furry cats in a cage in the waiting room and I had allergies). All were very expensive and had an attitude until I met Dr. Vasquez Sr. and Dr. Vasquez Jr. True they don't take appointments and the facility isn't in Beverly Hills but it's clean, they care about animals and the prices are reasonable. If you're looking for free then don't get a dog. If you want the caddillac treatment go to Beverly Hills (and pay 5x as much). If being quickly moved through a busy office is a problem then go elsewhere. If you want fair rates and caring Doctors though they're not perfect and may even make a mistake occasionally, this is a great place for your pet. NFAH seem to specialize in Pit Bulls as well but they treat all types of dogs and cats. That works for me since one of my dogs is a Pit Bull.
