Though certainly inexpensive and a wide variety of buffet selections, I always feel like I'm taking my life in my hands when I eat here - so, I stopped. While the suburbs aren't always the mecca for quality dining, we deserve better than this.
My mother lives in Abington so whenever we visit, my daughter requests a trip to China Garden Inn! The food is so delicious with the wonton soup topping the charts as the best I've ever had - the noodles are thin and there are plenty of fresh veggies topping the dish. Brown rice is available instead of white and the specials often include foods from other cultures such as Thai dishes or Japanese influenced food. A full bar tops this off as a great all-round place to go!!
Cindy and Ray's is inexpensive, quick to serve and serves real homecooking. The staff is generally eager to please (with a few grumpy exceptions). Breakfasts are filling and tasty.
We sent friends to the French Creek Inn to stay during our wedding on the recomendation of a family member. They were a little disappointed with the accommodations; said the room smelled like bleach (which, to me, isn't the worst thing a room could be scented with!). They were certainly reasonably priced and the location couldn't be beat from Kimberton where we were married. The Inn is family owned, the rooms are all on one floor and recently rennovated.
Your stay includes a lovely room and divine 'mostly' organic meals prepared by the owner, Rebecca Ray. Special dietary needs are happily accommodated as well as allergies; the bedding is all natural fibers. Massage therapy available on site. A short distance to the historical Valley Forge Park makes this a destination for a romantic or casual weekend.
We've gone to Mildred's for my mother-in-law's birthday for the last few years. The homemade pasta is wonderful (you can select this at a premium price for your main or side dishes). The atmosphere is close and friendly and the prices are quite reasonable for the hearty portions of yummy Italian classics. One disappointment at the shore is no fresh clams in the spaghetti and clam sauce.
Rocco's pizza is a great resource for those nights where you just don't feel like cooking but still want to serve your family food that is good quality. Their pasta is yummy; my daughter likes the chicken parm. But really, they have the best pizza in the area.
We always order pizzas for kids parties at Rocco's - the pizza is great - the kind I remember from my childhood in Philadelphia - a thin-ish crispy crust and just the right amount of cheese and fresh toppings. They always deliver on time and the orders have always been accurate.
Bob's Haven sells six foot hoagies - great for any party. Good stromboli's and really reasonable prices compared to other local joints. The staff are young and pleasant; mainly from the Christian College across the way.
Dr. Schwartz is kind, thorough and gave me great, practical advice when my daughter was suffering from seasonal allergies (wash her hair every night to get rid of pollen, wash the pillow cases first!). Dr. Schwartz speaks directly to my daughter instead of acting like she is an object in the room like some other experiences I have had in this practice.
