Edwards Mill Bar & Grill
Locally owned, food made on site daily. Great atmosphere. Separate bar with smoking. Prices are reasonable, and service is usually good. The owner is usually on site during the day.
Crowley's Old Favorites
An OOOOLLLLDDD Raleigh establishment going back to the late 60's as a swanky night club. Crowleys has been in the location for at least 25 years. Good food, reasonable prices, and easygoing kitchen and wait staff. After dining hours, the bar can quickly turn rowdy with students and locals hanging out together.
Mitch's Tavern
An old time Raleigh fixture, Mitch's was the bar featured in the movie 'Bull Durham'. It is where the fight scene takes place, although, you wouldn't fall UP the stairs, it is far more likely you would fall DOWN the stairs, as many an NCSU student has proven. Also a restaurant, the food is very good, and the prices reasonable.
Players Retreat
The PR vies with Mitch's tavern for oldest bar in Raleigh, and Mitch loses. Red's hasn't been open in at least 30 years. A family friendly bar/restaurant that has been in the same spot for at LEAST 45 years. Original owners Mickie and Bernie Hanoula were like old friends. New owner Gus Gusler has kept the place the same while updating a few things--the bar stays open later, and now sells liquor. The food and atmosphere are the same. A good bargain for any one.
Close Calls Mobile Veterinary Service
A mobile vet who does most veterinary services in his converted delivery van, Dave is caring and careful with the animals he works with. He was my "vet across the street" for several years and has worked with several friend's animals as well.
Sandra Curtis-Powell Pet Trnr
I have trained with Sandra off and on for over 20 years. She has always had a difficult to train breed (bullmastiffs, bearded collies, australian terriers), so she understands my frustrations with my Belgians. Her prices are in line with what I understand the other trainiers and clubs in the area charge, and she keeps updated on training techniques and trends
Tevis Carwash
Great place to take a dirty car for a little tender loving care. They cleaned both of my vehicles to a spit shine and got stains out of the front seat of my van (blueberry pie) and my car (blue cheese dressing) without charging extra. Prices are very reasonable, based on what I've paid in Raleigh, the employees are very friendly, and you can leave stuff on the seats and floorboards and expect it to be there when you come back.
Perry's Gun Shop Inc
An old Wendell business, Perry's should be on the list for any gun enthusiast or hunter. They have a large selection of shotguns, rifles, hunting apparel and handguns and ammo. They also aid customers in learning how to handle and care for their guns.
Discount Pet Supply
A local small retailer located in an unimpressive strip mall in Cary, Discount Pet carries premium brands and varieties unavailable elsewhere. If they don't have it, they'll try to get it for you. They also carry a wide assortment of talking toys.
Gourmutts Bakery
This is a specialty dog (and cat) supply store. They began life as a bakery for pet cookies, and have branched out into high quality foods and toys. They seem to be the only local retailer for TimberWolf Organics, they stock other varieties as well. I am welcomed like a long lost friend whenever I go in, although I am a relatively new customer. They keep track of my purchases and always help me carry purchases to the car.
