Divan Turkish Kitchen
Walking through the quickly gentrifying neighborhood of semi-demolished buildings in this region of South Philadelphia, you wouldn't think there would be a gem of a resturant around the corner. But the welcoming glow of lights from Divan sets the stage for really excellent Turkish food and a warm setting inside. Prices were reasonable, and although they serve alcohol, for a corking fee you can bring your own bottle with you. We had excellent salads, zucchini pancakes, and lamb entrees, and the baklava was absolutely the best I've ever eaten.
Ocean Earth Wind Fire Yoga
Located conveniently in the center of Phoenixville, Ocean Earth Wind Fire is a cozy setting for yoga instruction. The school has a regular roster of instructors (my favorite being the classes taught by Leslie Wright-Riley) but they also have unique special programs with instructors in yoga, meditation, nutrition, etc. The diversity of the educational programs, welcoming atmosphere of the space, and convenience of the many class times makes it a great place for a beginner or experienced student of yoga.
Aikido Suimei
Aikido Suimei, led by sensei Garrett Fuller, is a welcoming dojo for beginners and experienced students of aikido, as well as kids. As is traditional in aikido, newer students learn from more experienced students, and everyone is quite patient with students new to the martial art. Member ship is monthly, so you're not locked into a long contract if you're not certain that this is the sport for you. But, once you've participated in a few classes, you'll be hooked!
