Rebar

One of the best things about Rebar is the view. I cannot think of another place that gives you that perspective on Chicago. The decor of the bar itself is also beautiful and tasteful. Now, the downside is that I bought my first $18 cocktail, Dreams, but at least it tasted good. One of my friends bought a similarly pricey drink, Architect, and it did not taste good. I don't think I'll ever choose to come here again, but it's nice to have gone once.

Hop Haus

This restaurant offers "specialty" burgers like kangaroo burgers, buffalo burgers, and (my personal favorite) ostrich burgers. You can also have a traditional burger if you are feeling less adventurous. It's pretty inexpensive and a fun place to hang out and watch a game or two.

Sapori Trattoria

Chicago, IL Italian Restaurants 04/27/08: 'more like a 3.5 star restaurant'

The service was quite spotty, but my meal was very good. I had the meat lasagna and it was both tasty and huge. It's a cute restaurant but pretty small so I'd recommend making reservations. Also it's a little pricier than I would have expected.

Trader Todd's

The karaoke is a lot of fun and the drinks are strong and cheap (shout out for the mai-tais!). It is a very diverse crowd and everyone is all about having a good time. I went last night and really enjoyed it.

Cavanaugh's

Chicago, IL American Restaurants 04/25/08: 'convenient'

This is a nice place to grab a drink after work. Ive also been on a few occasions for lunch and the food is fine (pretty standard bar food). FYI its tucked inside of the Monadnack building so the entrance can be easy to miss.

Beef & Brandy

Chicago, IL Steakhouses 04/18/08: 'didn't do it for me'

On the plus side, this place is cheap and the staff is very friendly. But the food is (barely) decent--I didn't really enjoy my french fries and I didn't think it was possible to mess up fries. Since this place is downtown there are a ton of other options.

Rock Records

They actually still have records! That was kind of cool. This place also has a pretty good selection of CDs and DVDs as well, and it's a fairly diverse sample of genres.

Swirl Wine Bar

Chicago, IL American Restaurants 04/17/08: 'it's called "Swirl Wine Bar" now'

I don't know if the owners are the same, but this place is now Swirl. Anyway, I'd like to write a more in-depth review but we were never served so I can't. The place is quite small and struck me as a little pretentious.

La Pomme Rouge

Chicago, IL Food and Dining 04/17/08: 'looking to impress on a 3rd date?'

If so, this might be good place to take him/her. The atmosphere is very romantic, but may be too much for a first or even second date. Anyway, the martinis here are divine and the food was good (but on the smaller side in terms of portion size).

Gold Coast Tickets

Chicago, IL Ticket Sales 04/17/08: 'fast service'

I have used the location in West Town (908 W. Madison) and found it very easy to pick up my tickets, which were at a 50% discount!!! The only possible downside is that you have to pick up the tickets on the day of the event between the hours of 9am and 6 pm, but given the amount of money you save, I don't think that's too much of a problem.
