Two Street Pizza

Philadelphia, PA Pizza Restaurants 04/13/08: 'Philly's undiscovered secret'

Having grown up in Wilkes-Barre / Scranton, I was disappointed by the lack (read: real Italian) pizza around Philadephia.

I've discovered a few places I like, but the mediocre far outweigh the truly good.

2 St pizza is one of those places.

I stumbled upon it on New Year's Day while partying on 2 St after the parade, as they were selling slices. I thought the pizza was great then, but forgot about it since I'm never in that side of town.

Then I was reintroduced it at a local pub on a slow night, a few of us regulars were hungry so we decided on pizza and someone suggested 2 St. When it came (and I wasn't drunk this time), I thought 'wow, this pizza really is great!'

Since we realized they deliver to our area (never knew, because we've never gotten a menu from them - unlike most places who put a menu in our mailbox every other week), we order at least twice a week.

For you pizza lovers out there, you'll understand when I say 'the pizza is so good, you'll even eat all the crust.' That pretty much sums it up.

Also highly recommended "regular" (non-gourmet) pizza joints:

Lozaro's (like Lorenzo's, but not nearly as greasy, good selection of slices)
NYPD (nice selection of slices, but a fresh pie out of the oven)
Mack's on Oregon Ave (remember cruising the Wildwood boardwalk when you were a kid and getting slices from Mack & Manco's? this is it. they sell slices but order a whole pie ($9) for the best thin crust pizza around).
