Rosita's Mexican Restaurant
Their new location on the waterfront is a wonderful location to hang out and drink margaritas, but the big new building doesn't have the same warmth as the old one. Still, the food is decent mexican food, not spectacular but certainly adequate. And the Hudson River is beautiful from their deck.
Armadillo Bar & Grill
My favorite southwestern restaurant, eclectic, a little funky, and first rate food. Fresh meat and fish dishes, traditional and more creative recipes. Great margaritas. Even a nice patio for the summer. Service is very good and prices are reasonable for the dishes.
Agway Pine Bush
I've been to other Agways, but each one is just slightly different, and this one boasts a great selection of Mucksters, the best waterproof boot around. They had more styles and sizes than any other store, and I was able to get exactly what I needed. Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Usual good selection of garden supplies, prices better than other garden centers. Also nice selection of unique garden and gift items. Willing to order anything you need. Just off the main road, so a little hard to find, so may have to ask for directions once in town.
Walden Animal Deli
They carry a very large selection of premium dog and cat foods at decent prices. Good selection of dog treats and supplies also at good prices. Friendly staff will even carry items to your car. No late hours and closed Sundays, but they are open on Saturdays. I only have shopped there for dog food, but their bird supplies look extensive, they used to carry other large animal feed but not sure now.
MacHu Picchu Peruvian Rstrnt
I'm a total 'gringo' reviewing this restaurant, but after hearing wonderful things about this place for years, we finally went, and have been back a few times. Interesting dishes, large quantities, very reasonable prices. Very good service. I would highly recommend this place; someplace different, yet very much like 'comfort food'.
Lombardi's Restaurant
A thoroughly pleasant Italian restaurant, just a short drive from Minnewaska and the New Paltz dining scene. While the host and hostess are not 'old Italian', the food is fresh and homemade and very good. The best fresh manicotti I have ever had. The pizza is good too, and the atmosphere is casual yet refined. Reasonable prices. Don't expect to go there before a movie though, as fresh food takes time to be prepared, so allow extra time to relax in between courses.
Sweeney's Mvp Pub Restaurant
After surviving a fire a number of years ago, Sweeney's has come back strong with a nice new bar and pub. Casual dining, with some Irish fare on the menu, great burgers, great fish and chips, as well as wraps, sandwiches and full course dinners. No longer the bargain it once was, with the burgers/fries approaching the $10 mark, and wine and beer a little more than other similar restaurants, the food is well prepared and fresh, the staff friendly and service very good.
Daxxon Chinese Restaurant
A bit out of the way, in a supermarket shopping mall, Daxxon continues to serve very good chinese food in a friendly atmosphere. Owned by a lovely local couple, they are always pleased to see you, even if 'regular' is months apart. They have a choice of 'no MSG' dishes and lighter dishes, as well as traditional chinese restaurant fare. Portions are huge, and prices are very reasonable, including the liquor. Pleasantly decorated for a nice 'eat in' experience.
East Side Bar & Grill
We had heard that the Wreck Room served good food, so finally gave it a try one Halloween. While it is known as a 'biker bar', it had a rather extensive menu, and while we kept it simple, the food was quite good. The atmosphere is, well, a biker bar, but the patrons and staff were all very nice, and the food was good and reasonably priced. If you want to experience something different, perhaps, and casual, it's worth a try. I would certainly recommend it based on the food alone. And if you are into bikes, then this is the place for you.
Ruth's Chris Steak House
This was my first trip to a Ruths Chris Steak House, and I wasn't disappointed. My husband took me here for our 25th wedding anniversary, and the food was every bit as good as I had heard. The atmosphere is somewhat 'Ramada Inn', plain, but still nice, and service was of course perfect. Steak and everything else was very good. Top prices, but that is expected. Great for business lunches and dinners, as my husband can attest to.
