Old Point Bar
One of my favorite bars in New Orleans, even though it is in Algiers. Set right across from the Mississippi River levee near the ferry, you get a real feeling for steamy New Orleans atmosphere on those hot nights. Because it is so out of the way it can be a great place to hear some amazing music without being in a large jammed packed venue. Love it!

This is such a fun place to go to to hear great New Orleans music! It is uptown so a young college crowd does like it, as well. It can get really crowded when a popular band is playing. But they also have food and late night happy hour.

I love going here, even though it is a bit out of the way on the Westbank. But the sweet corn tamales are the best anywhere. A really authentic cultural eating experience. I believe that the owners are from El Salvadore.Pupusas are great, too!

Mulate's The Original Cajun
Great place to go for cajun food and especially great for listening to and dancing to cajun music! A truly fun experience and mostly authentic cultural experience. Try the red beans and fried catfish.

Daily Pint
This is a cool local neighborhood bar. They have a great selection of beer on tap and also a big selection of scotch. There are TV screens for game broadcasts, as well as a pool table. It can get crowded. If you are into all of that it is a good find.

Baby Blues Bbq
Very good BBQ. I like the pulled pork the best. The sides are really good. All fresh and "homemade." It is nice to get okra in L.A. Combos come with cornbread. They know what they are doing but the prices have jumped up and a complete meal for 3 or 4 can get to be a little more than you might expect. This place is small and popular so it is good to get take out.

Cafe 50s
This is a fun place to go with kids. Retro cafe decor. You can sit at a booth or at the counter and have a small juke box at your table, or use the big old fashioned juke box. Lunch and dinner specials are generous and tasty and the ice cream counter selections bring back memories of being a kid myself. Comfort food!

All India Cafe
Really good Indian food! The people in the kitchen have soul! Nice distinctive flavors and variety. It is nice to go here to eat but we also get the food to go sometimes. Very, very good.

Typhoon Restaurant
I had fun one night here sitting at the bar. The menu is pretty interesting if you are brave! Along with typical great Thai food the menu includes scorpions, crickets, frog legs and worms. Great for adventurous little boys! And it's at the SM Airport so that is an added plus for kids to see the planes.

Los Angeles School-Gymnastics
When my son went here for a Birthday Party he had a great time. The staff is very professional and does everything to ensure safety. The place in a big indoor gym with lots of fun equipment. Great place for kids to get physical in a fun way. They have classes and also summer camp.
