Brown's Hardware
This store is a great place to shop for hardware needs and also gardening supplies. It is great to support a local shop, especially when the people are so helpful and they can really help you find what you need and give good advice to help with any project. Things are a bit more expensive than the big chains, but it is WELL worth it for the personalized service and convenient parking.
Bear Rock Cafe
This place has really good sandwiches and they also have really tasty soups. You can have the soup served in a bread bowl and it is delicious. They have individual pizzas and some breakfast selections also. The quality of the food is very good and the whole wheat bread for the sandwiches is great. A really good place for a quality, freshly made sandwich.
Company Flowers & Gifts Too!
I first went to this shop when I was rushing around at the last minute trying to get a nice bouquet of flowers for a birthday gift. I tried many other spots and found nothing and then walked into Company Flowers and realized I had struck gold. The flowers aren't cheap, but they have a beautiful selection and they do a really good job arranging them. The rest of the shop is filled with lovely soaps, lotions, cards and all kinds of other goodies. This place is really a great shop.
Lost Dog Cafe
This place has great sandwiches and good pizza. Its small, but has a fun atmosphere and its also good for takeout. Of course the best part is all they do to help rescue dogs, so you can feel good about eating pizza!!
Transcendence-Perfection-Bliss Of The Beyond
This store is a little gem. It has a nice selection of cards, and a great assortment of small gifts for kids. They have really nice wrapping paper and ribbon and a good selection of incense and candles. The people that work there are lovely and it is a very enjoyable shopping experience.
Wake Up Little Suzie
This store is the greatest! You can find a gift for just about anyone (including yourself!) in this store. They have something for every occasion and they change out the merchandise quite a bit so you can always find something new. At Christmas time they have great ornaments that you don't see anywhere else. This store should be on everybody's shopping list!
Chocolate Bar
This place is so, so cute. They have coffee and other hot drinks, I had hot chocolate and it was delicious. They also have a really unique assortment of chocolate bars in all different flavors with fun labels that make a great gift for the chocolate lovers in your life. My personal fave is the Milk Chocolate with Pretzel Bits. YUM! They also have cute T-Shirts and a lounge area to sit. A really fun spot.
Sam's Farm
This place has a very large selection of flowers and other assorted plants. The people are very helpful and knowledgeable. They also have an assortment of statues for the yard and sometimes in the summer will have some locally grown vegetables. A great neighborhood business.
la Cote Dor Cafe
This restaurant is a little piece of France, right in local Arlington, Virginia. The food is so delicious. The chef uses local and seasonal ingredients and there is always something interesting on the list of specials. This is a great place for a romantic or special dinner.
Bistro des Celestins
I am lucky to live in walking distance from this restaurant, but it is worth the trip from wherever you live. The food is really, really good and the prices are very reasonable. There is a good wine list and the wine is also well priced. The more fancy restaurant is in the back, but the front is a cozy neighborhood bistro, very comfortable and relaxed. My favorite is Steak Frites, the onion soup is very good, and there are always great specials to try. I have been there with a group of 8 and everyone loved everything! Definitely a must try.
