If you are vacationing in the Moosehead lake region, get to know the Mountain Country Supermarket. They are an IGA, and while they do not carry the huge selection of the supermarkets, they have everything you need. Their meats are 1st rate, a good selection of fresh fruits and vegetables canned goods and spices. You can get beer and wine, a good variety and selection. They accept all major credit cards, If you are camping or staying in the area, it really helps not to have to bring stuff from home, making the packing easier.
Bishops is a popular stop if you are in Jackman, and driving along on 201. Besides gas, the general store has all sorts of souvenirs, from t-shirts to stuffed animals. They also have wine, beer, and soda. They also sell fishing & hunting and camping supplies.
Good home cooking at a very good price. It is a local hang out, and can get busy during the tourist season. The staff treats you like family, and will take the time to talk to you while you order your meal, or while you are thinking about dessert. The offer daily specials, and you must get the home made french fries, and if wild blueberry pie is in season, do not miss it. We have been there for breakfast. lunch and dinner. It is an older place, but part of the fun is to see all the coffee cups that are on the wall from around the world.
Gio's has good food at a reasonable price. The service was pleasant and attentive, we were being served by a trainee, but it did not cause a problem. The dining room has a separate bar area as well as a take out area that do not interfere with the meal. They offer a full Italian & American menu. The pizza was a bit overcooked, and could have had more cheese on it, but it could be that they were very busy. Plenty of parking during the dinner hour, not sure during the day because it is in a strip mall.
Donna's floral can not be beat. The quality of the arrangements are unbelievable. She handles everything from a single carnation to large wedding or event, and she even is able to handle (and has) a last minute rose request on Valentines day or Mother's day. What makes this family run business special is that Donna and her staff take the time to listen to what you want. They will offer suggestions if you want them, but they do not pressure you into something you are not comfortable with. It is worth giving her a call, or stopping by her store and see what they can do for you, you will be very happy you did.
We have used Copper Travels for a few of our trips. Sure you can go on-line, and maybe get a better deal, but Nikki, our agent, listened to what we wanted, offered great ideas, and we always ended up with more than we thought we would get. When we came home, she checked that everything was as promised. One one trip, I had called her saying it looked like we might be delayed taking off, and thus miss our connecting flight, she kept an eye on our flight, and when she saw that our connecting flight was going to be missed, sent us a message that she had us confirmed on the next flight, and thus made the trip that much less stressful. There are certain things you can not do on line, while in a plane.
The food is good, one of the better pizza joints in New Britain. They offer breakfast, lunch & dinner. They have a large menu selection, large eat in dinning room, or take out is available. Their best offerings for the price are the weekly specials, pizza, and the open faced steak sandwich. If we do take out besides pizza, the club sandwich platter or fried chicken are also a good meals, providing some different find from a traditional Italian and pizza place.
This local branch is probably the best bank I have dealt with for over 15 years. The staff is very friendly, helpful, and courteous. Not only do they know my name, but my kids names, and the which teams they are on ! The kids like going there, because they get a treat. They have an other branch in town, in the Stop & Shop , but I prefer to do my banking here. The good thing about Peoples is that if you are not near any local branch, you should be able to find a Stop & Shop in any major town, and they usually have a branch there, eliminating the fees for using an out of network ATM. Also the Stop & Shop branches are open 7 days a week, and later than most local branches in case you need it, or are at the store.
Great ice cream. Sometimes too many flavors to choose from. I like the toasted almond, but when the seasonal fruits and berries come in, go with those choices. They have soft serve and hard pack ice cream. Nothing better on a warm evening, than to go there with family and friends, and watch the sun set on the farm, while eating a double of toasted almond on a waffle cone.
More food than you can handle, at a great price! I have eaten there many times, and I can never finish my meal. You can have a meal with the fresh warm bread alone while waiting for your meal. The pasta is cooked just right, never sticky or soupy. The fra-diavalo (sp?) is very spicy, and flavorful, and loaded with clams, shrimp, and scallops. I never get dessert, because I have no room left, but they do look good. This is a nice place to bring the family, it is on the busy side, and can get noisy but the wait is not too long, and the staff has always been friendly and attentive.
