I like the coffee at Blue Bottle quite a bit. I am a big fan of the single-brewed concept, although there are some definite drawbacks.
Because each cup is brewed individually, the coffee is always fresh and delicious. However, because each cup is brewed individually, it can take forever with even a short line.
Also, the prices are a bit higher than one would expect to pay for coffee. I would recommend Blue Bottle for days when you have a little extra time and a little extra cash.
I went to Punjab yesterday with a group and was very skeptical when I walked in. The restaurant is large and was completely empty and I have generally not had great experiences with Chinese/American restaurants. Also, it is named Punjab, a region of India. Weird.
I was pleasantly surprised when the food came. Everything was actually pretty good. It wasn't the best food I have ever eaten, but I was happy. I had the Grilled Bacon & Cheese, which was grilled the exact right amount of time.
Punjab was also dirt cheap, which definitely moves it from 3 to 4 stars.
Lotus Garden is a great little Vietnamese restaurant that actually delivers! We have ordered from them twice now and have been really pleased with the food.
The Vietnamese BBQ Pork is amazing. It is really flavorful and the texture is great. The 5 Spice Roast Chicken is also excellent. The chicken is tender and the skin is nice and crispy.
My only complaint would be about the delivery time. The first time it took almost 1 1/2 hours and the second time was slightly over an hour. Considering that they are pretty close to my house, it seems a little long.
Overall, however, I would definitely recommend Lotus Garden.
Flowercraft Garden Center is a great nursery off of Bayshore Blvd. They have a large selection of indoor and outdoor plants and pottery.
The prices are pretty reasonable and the staff is incredibly helpful. I had no idea what I was doing and the staff patiently steered me in the right direction.
Parking is relatively easy and the location is right off the highway.
My boyfriend and I went to Emmy's for the first time this weekend after hearing about its fantastic spaghetti and meatballs. Unfortunately, we made the mistake of showing up at around 8:30 on a Friday night, so we had to wait for almost an hour.
When we finally got a table, we were served pretty quickly. We both ordered the spaghetti and meatballs and got a small order of garlic bread. Both were delicious. The noodles were good and the sauce was nice, but the star of the show was the meatballs. The meatballs were awesome.
Also, going to Emmy's will make you cool. This is definitely a very San Francisco restaurant, equipped with a dj and dim lighting.
Decent Cuban food is difficult to find in San Francisco. After trying a few other Cuban options in the city, Paladar emerges as one of the leaders.
I had the Cuban sandwich, which was a strong attempt at authenticity. The pork was tender and there were plenty of pickles. It was definitely a little pricey at $9, but not absurdly so. The menu seems relatively true to form, offering picadillo and lechon asado.
The Hidden Vine is a cute little gem on Post Street near Le Colonial. If you didn't know it was there, you would never find it.
The room is dimly lit with candles everywhere. The seating is comfortable and the bartender/server is attentive. We had a few of their comparison tastings, which I found really interesting.
It is definitely a little pricey, but not prohibitively so.
Chaat Cafe is a good option for lunch in SOMA. Meals are reasonably priced and portions are generous. I had the Desi Chicken Wrap, which was very good. It was spicy, but not overwhelmingly so, and the chicken was tender.
Basil Canteen in SOMA is pretty good. The prices are a tiny bit high, but unreasonable. The menu is creative and extensive and the food is generally pretty tasty.
Unfortunately, the service was really slow, to the point that it was almost absurd. For lunch, we were there for almost 2 hours and the restaurant was not even busy.
Innovations is a great little salon off Shady Grove Road. You would never notice it if you didn't know it was there, but it is worth looking for.
Vaughn is my stylist of choice. She is hilarious and makes the whole experience really enjoyable. She has always done a great job with my hard to manage hair.
