Hales Bar Marina Resort
I give this resort an unsatisfactory because the campground area was a mess when we stayed there last summer. It was all under construction and the RV park roads were unpaved and full of holes and that was not the part under construction!. Everytime it rained it became a muddy yukky place. I couldn't even find a dry place to walk my dog. I will give them credit for having the camp sites paved however. But this is only a small plus in the big picture of this resort. They do have wonderful cabins on Lake Nickajack to rent that are very nice and highly recommended. They also have a wonderful marina with beautiful houseboats. The manager was new and was trying very hard but admitted they had a long ways to go in the campground area. I would not stay here again in an RV until they clean it up and pave it. They have way too many 'full-timers' and it shows more like a trailer park than a campground.
New Smyrna Beach Rv Storage
We have used this campground consistently over the last five or six years. When we have relatives and friends come in for Daytona Bike Week or Biketoberfest we always put them in this campground. It has a nice convenience store and swimming pool area with several laundry sites and bath houses but we like it most for bikers because you can park your bike at your RV, unlike the others in this area. The down side is that the RV sites are not paved and when it's rainy there is a lot of standing water. We don't have a lot to choose from in our area but it does pass muster and everyone enjoys staying here overall.
Soponick's Cabbage Patch Tvrn
This tiny tavern is so rustic it's really just a hole in the wall dive. It's located out in the rural farm area of Samsula in the middle of all the cabbage fields, thus it's name. There's no real law enforcement presence out there so it can get a little risque at times. It is home of the world famous Coleslaw Wrestling at both Daytona Bike Week and Biketoberfest. They serve a darned cold beer and a great time. It is one of the areas oldest and best known biker stops. At Bike Week it draws thousands of people for all the misc. events they put on. Outside of Bikeweek it's just that tiny little hole in the wall that you still don't want to miss.
Maria Bonita Authentic Mexican
Move over Taco Bell, yo quierro Maria Bonita! We just keep coming back and back to this authentic family owned Mexican restaurant. The owner takes a great personal interest in this restaurant and it shows. It has flourished over the years and moved to a new location several years back due to their success. Even the new place has been remodeled and continues to get better. The prices are great as is the food. And you gotta love those huge Margaritas! A definite two thumbs up.
Aztec Scooter Co
This man and wife team are the best in the scooter business! We came here for repair on a scooter we purchased for my grandson through a company out of California. Needless to say, they weren't willing to stand behind their product even though we payed $500 for the scooter. We took it to this local shop after all other efforts failed. The owner worked countless hours on it. Sometimes it would just scream and other times it wouldn't move. We all dubbed it 'Christine' because it seemed to have a mind of its own. We finally came to the conclusion it was a lemon and couldn't be fixed. He knew this was my grandson's Christmas present and sold us a new one at his cost that was way better than the one we had. He went the extra mile to make a kid's Christmas go from a huge disappointment to a great experience. And he didn't charge us a dime for the hours and hours of labor he had put into the old on. Noone else would have gone to this extreme for people who didn't even buy the scooter from them in the first place. It's the ONLY place to go for scooters, dirt bikes, and small motorcycles.
Garys Choice Meats
I have been going to this meat market located in a strip mall for many years. It was originally owned by a butcher by the name of Gary and was called Gary's Choice Meats but was sold a few years back even though Gary stayed on as butcher. Gary has now taken it back over again and is as good as ever. He cuts some amazing steaks if you want a real treat for grilling out. They offer meat packages that include a variety of different meats at very attractive price points. They also have a nice deli with lots of homemade salads and sandwiches. No one beats their spaghetti salad. It's a must try!
John's Appliance City
I came to this store looking for a deal on a refrigerator but they didn't have much to show me. What they did have was not very impressive at all, just the usual stuff you can get at any mediocre appliance store. I was not impressed with their prices either and ended up at a big box store. I prefer shopping at local businesses but this time I just couldn't justify it in this particular case.
Angela's Restaurant Supplies
Angela's has been in business in the Daytona Beach area for many years and offers a large array of items ranging from new and used restaurant equipment to food service utensils and supplies. They are always willing to go the extra mile to help you find what you need, even if they have to special order it for you. They also sell to the general public. Their prices are fair and they have a nice amount of inventory in stock. I will continue to rely on them for all my food service needs.
Aku Tiki Traders Restaurant
This small restaurant located inside Aku Tiki overlooks the pool area and is a nice quiet place to grab a bite to eat when staying at this motel. The food is nothing spectacular but is good enough and the prices are reasonable. It is a casual atmosphere and waitstaff is friendly. Many of my family members have stayed at this motel and we usually stop in this restaurant for breakfast or lunch at least once during our stay.
Boondocks Restaurant
If you want a fun environment this is the place! It is located at a local marina and is outdoors only seating. They have the biggest and best burgers anywhere in town and lots of delicious seafood as well. The view of the Intercoastal Waterway is terrific and it's fun to watch the boats come and go. The prices are great and it's family friendly as well. The service is awesome and everyone is exceptionally fun and friendly. It's a little off the beaten tourist path but is well known with the locals even though some tourists manage to find it as well. It this area's best hidden jewel of a outdoor restaurant and bar.
