The portions at Conestoga's are huge. Run like a family owned business, staff is really friendly. Can get extremely busy on weekend nights. The food is really good. Typical real steakhouse, steak will be bloodier than you expect.
Northwest Grille is a little pricey but the fish is fresh and the presentation and preparation are great. Food is always tasty. Service is great. Outside of the "college town" part of Gainesville.
Tony and Pats has a great pizza buffet. It is not the biggest or the cheapest, but the quality and taste are the best. My favorite is one of their dessert pizzas called the S'mores Pizza. It is to die for. Ooey gooey marshmallow, melted chocolate and crushed graham cracker crumbs on a sweet pizza crust.
Calico Jack's has the most unique wing sauce I have ever tasted. It is a traditional buffalo sauce but with something extra added. My only complaint is that over the years, the size of the wings has decreased. They used to serve the largest wings, but not any more.
Bahn Thai is one of my all time favorite Thai restaurants. It is a must stop place every time I visit Gainesville. The food is excellent. The owners are super friendly. When we lived there we would go for the lunch buffet (which they no longer have) and when the owner would see us enter he would kick up the spice in one of our favorite dishes on the buffet because he knew we liked it spicy.
Caribbean Spice is a tiny hole in the wall place with no menu, you have to know what you want. The food is really cheap and really good. The Jamaican meat patties are awesome as well as the cocoa bread and the carrot bread.
Rice dishes and noodle dishes are very good at Thai Princess. Red curry dishes are nice and spicy. Spring rolls are larger than average. Staff is friendly and prompt. Very willing to up the spicy level if you ask.
I used to frequent this Thai Orchid as it is near my work and the food is pretty good, but I stopped going as the service has gone downhill. The last time I went no one ever refilled my water glass during my entire visit (despite me asking several times). Several times we have called ahead for larger parties. On the phone they say they will put together some tables for you, but when you get there they make you sit separately at 4 tops. that has happened twice now.
Sushi portions at Koji are small, prices are average. The lunch combination platters are satisfying. Good place to stop if you are shopping as it is in the middle of the Streets of Tanasbourne.
If you are looking for real Japanese drinks and appetizers Yuzu is the place. Good deals on beer. Staff is very friendly. Only open weeknights, not lunch or weekends. Can get really busy. Reservations recommended. Tucked away in a strip mall, a bit hard to find.
