I am not, nor have I ever been, a fan of Clyde's. In my opinion, it's junky and overpriced. The man there, who may be Clyde, is just plain cranky and not helpful at all.
We have been into Abalache once. It's a yucky neighboorhood, but if I see the word "book" I have just GOT to go. This is not a bad little shop, they don't have a huge selection but they do have some interesting odds and ends.
This particular stretch of Western Avenue has quite a few smaller antique shops. I like to stop into Mockingbird Manor a few times a year. They have a nice selection of collectibles and some lovely antiques. Friendly, helpful staff.
I could spend an hour at Langsam's just breathing. With all of the candles the aroma is heaven. They also have a fair selection of gift type items and a very friendly staff. Stop on by.
23rd Street Antique is one of those places that you will need to set aside an hour or 2 to browse properly. They have a huge selection of just about everything. I love the collectables. Their staff is some of the nicest out there and their prices will not break the bank.
Absolutely lovely atmosphere, world class steaks that melt in your mouth, highly trained staff to meet your every need. The downside? You may need to mortgage your home for an evening here.
Do you remember the banjo music from the movie "Deliverance"? Welll, this is what you will hear the minute you pull up into what is called the parking lot for Woodcrest Tavern. Don't bother getting out of your car, just turn around and drive away... FAST!
Relaxed atmosphere, good food, friendly staff, pool, darts and plenty of ice cold beer. What more could you ask for after a long day at work??? Stop on in and relax with some friends.
I would rather be locked in a room with 10 used car salesmen before dealing with the staff at Aspen again. After an hour of the "hard sell" I all but ran out the door, never to return again. Save yourself the hassle, buy an elliptical trainer for your home. It's cheaper and doesn't talk back!
Every arrangement that I have received from Kickingbird has been lovely. Well arranged, fresh, not filled with junk greens. The vases, baskets, etc that the arrangements come in are always gorgeous. The flowers from Kickingbird seem to last much longer than from other florists. Definitely recommend.
