Desert Hills Motel
A small, really basic motel. If you leave downtown, drive along Freemont passed the crumby parts and used car lots you will come to it. Absolutely no frills motel with small TVs. Good if you are in town for work and need to stay a while. Kitchenettes available.
Sahara Westwood Hotel
This hotel is just off the interstate 15 highway. It is close to downtown. The major good thing about it is that it is pet friendly. They advertise it and put up billboards. If you have your four footed friend, they are welcome.
Rivera Hotel
This is an older hotel that has hung on. If you come by shuttle from the airport, they bring you to the back. Which looks like a tacky motel. The front, on the strip is far superior in appearance, a rounded front with doors that open into the bright and fun casino. Mediocre food, pretty basic. Clean, plain hotel rooms. Think Holiday Inn, not luxury, but reasonably priced.
El Cortez Hotel & Casino
This is more or less what you think of with downtown, older hotels. Pretty nice, but eclipsed by its more nicely renovated neighbors. The registration is a single step from slot machines. Steakhouse, buffet and coffee shop. Modestly priced rooms make it a good deal. Not glamerous.
The Suncoast Showroom
This locals big casino doesn't require a trip into the Strip area to see a show. Plenty of parking. Name acts, if slightly less than A list. This weekend was Bobby Rydell and they have Clint Holmes coming up.
Itsugar Atlantic City LLC
There is nothing not fun about Its Sugar. Starting with the huge statue replicating Lucy the Margate Elephant in jelly beans! There is a wall of Jelly Bellys. A wall of M&M's. Bins of sour and chewy candy. Hard Candy. Vintage Candy. Logo merchandise of the store. I carry my Sugar tote bag all the time. You can make your own chocolate bar or get an ice cream cone.
James Candy Co
Pretty colored taffy, stretched in front of you. A variety of other candies. All boxed in gift packages by hand. Pretty decor and a friendly staff. Get some macaroons while you are there.
Steel's Fudge
It doesn't get any better. If you are at this store you are either on vacation or near all people who are. Fresh, creamy fudge in a variety of flavors and they will send you home with a little plastic knife to cut it. Go for it.
Fralinger's Park Place Gifts
Fresh Saltwater Taffy. Made there. Stretched where you can see it. Cut into bite sized pieces and in a pretty souvenier box. The folks at home will thank you.
Tourneau
Located on the fancy Pier, the store is directly across from Caesars. Come in off the boardwalk, it is right inside. Lovely, expensive watches for men and women. The men's selection is particulary spectacular.
