Much nicer than your usual coffee shop. Why? Because it is located in the cute little town of Wilmington. No snootiness going on here. Just a cozy, little coffee shop with the same delights of a Starbucks or Caribou. I especially enjoy the flavors of the season. Give it a try and while your there, check out the theater next door.
We have been going to King Choy for quite a few years now. Funny thing is we have a menu at home with all the appetizers and entrees we always order circled. So on Friday night after a long work week, we pick up the phone and usually order crab rangoon, King Choy fried rice, szechuan vegetable, and shrimp chop suey. Sure looks like we are going to have to experiment further on their extensive menu selection!! They usually have valuable coupons you can save for free entrees. Oh yes, don't forget the fortune cookies and maybe toss in an order of egg rolls. Dine-in, carry-our and delivery is available.
My daughter and her friends "found" L'Appetito as they were walking to the beach this summer. They didn't want to carry lunches and were searching for someplace to eat. They were so happy to find a place with good sandwiches that were big enough to share and a nice atmosphere - liked the murals on the walls. Since then, she has been back several times and took me when we had a mother-daughter excursion into Chicago. Just recently, she brought friends visiting my Kentucky (and even brought me back a tomato/cheese salad) I admit, L'Appetito has a cute name and has good sandwiches. However, to please teens and to entice them to return again and again is really saying something.
We went to India House as a family and then my teenage daughter took her friends back. India House made a good impression on her because of the lovely atmosphere and diverse food. She and her friends have returned many times and have tried a new dish each time. So not only is India House a beautiful restaurant but it is also a great learning experience in appreciating different cuisines and cultures.
Out in the country, down a long, long lane is one of the most fabulous tea rooms I have ever been too. You can have lunch in what once was a horse stall - you won't believe it until you look closely and realize, yes, it was a stall!! Imagine eating lunch in a stall with a touch of elegance. Words just cannot explain how delightful the feeling is. The menu is fabulous and the desserts are mouth-watering! On top of that, there is a beautiful gift shop with amazing and well-known pottery. There is plenty of land so you can believe you are truly out in the country even though suburban living is closing in on Oswego. Please visit but call first or check out their website for hours as they do close for the winter. You will LOVE it.
I don't know if this store ever sold coins, but I was just there today and they do sell an amazing variety of sports apparel and gifts. I saw a great Cubs purse that looked like a miniature athletic bag. Lots of banners, posters, shirts, pillows, blankets etc etc etc for any age sports fan. Very nice items that you may not find elsewhere. One stop shopping if you are trying to find a gift.
We have been stopping at Grocers Pantry for various items for many years now. It is the typical quick stop shop except for one important thing: once the owner knows your name, he will never forget it. He always asks about the family and how things are going. It always amazes me when he does this for me and almost every customer who is walking in the door. He displays extraordinary customer service in a personable and still efficient manner.
Alright so I needed a new bathing suit fast. I was taking a water aerobics class and the water ate up my current bathing suit. It was barely hanging together. It is winter, where do I find a new bathing suit that will take the abuse of chlorine? Kiefer Swim Shop. The swim shop has bathing suits for all ages, and even a good selection of bathing suits for the mature lady. I was surprised to find a nice one and even though it was a little more than I hoped to pay, beggars with bare bathing suits can't be choosy. It's a good one and will last through many chlorinated aerobic classes. The store also has a great variety of swimming gear. I never knew there was so many fun swimming paraphernalia.
I have been going to Let's Learn for many years. At first, I went to find educational and child-appropriate games for my daughter. Then I continued when I needed supplies for teaching Sunday school classes. Now I continue to shop at Let's Learn when I need supplies for my preschool room at a local daycare. I am always sure to find the perfect poster, cubby name tags, calendar pieces, books, art and crafts supplies, games etc. quickly and easily. I am thankful that they have such a nice inventory because I do not have much energy for shopping after being with children for 8 hours!
OK, I know we are all tired of the snow and cold! But aren't you tired of sitting on the couch watching TV and having your kids bounce off the walls with cabin fever. Well I have a great place for you to visit and a unique event for a winter day. Musher mania. Yep, you can experience the thrill of glorious sled dogs in action right here in Illinois at the Monee Reservoir. There are also other activities such as ice sculpting, ice skating, marshmallow roasting, story time. An amazing event that I promise you will remember for a lifetime. (oh, and besides that the Monee Reservoir is a great place summer, fall winter and spring to refresh your senses.)
