I have been taking my pets to Ashworth Road Animal Hospital for over twenty-two years, and I can't say enough about the compassion and wonderful care that the vets there have given them. I've had two dogs in that time and the first had some health problems that were treated and resolved with consistent care and patience from Dr Bob. I feel very confident in taking my dog there knowing that he will receive the best care possible. All the staff show great care and concern for your pets.
Bike World in W. Des Moines has knowledgable employees who can assist the novice biker to the most experienced one. They have bicycling equipment including bike clothing, accessories, shoes and, of course, bikes in a wide variety of price ranges. Their service department is also excellent and prompt in their service (as long as you don't bring your bike in right before RAGBRAI!). The staff are ready help, but also will let you browse. I recommend them for your cycling needs.
Cafe Su has been able to maintain their excellent Asian food over several years. The lunch menu is reasonably priced (I recommend the noodle salad) and the dinners are good with a wide selection. The potstickers and crab rangoons are excellent to begin your meal.
The atmosphere is modern and colorful with painted murals.
I have found the only inconsistency is the service. Usually it's good, but sometimes servers can be inattentive. It's not bad enough to stop me from going back though.
Fitness Sports is the local leader in fitting any person with any fitness level in the right shoes for exercise. I have never encountered an employee who didn't have an excellent background in ascertaining the best brand of shoes for my feet. They are patient and will diligently help you try on as many shoes needed to find the right pair.
They also have a wide variety of running and fitness gear in addition to swim suits. Prices are moderate, but they have some great sales. YMCA members get a discount too!
Yanni's is a small neighborhood restaurant with excellent food. The restaurant had a light crowd on a weeknight, so our server was very attentive. The Greek salad served with the meal was very good and the Greek plate had a variety of Greek specialties highlighted by a tasty gyro. An excellent meal.
They also have some pasta dishes of which the lasagna was good, but not great. I recommend sticking with the Greek portion of the menu.
The decor is pleasant though the restaurant is a little on the dark side. Prices are average - in the $10-$12+ range. I recommend this to anyone who enjoys Greek food.
Flarah's is a wonderful little neighborhood cafe with a wide variety of salads, sandwiches and soups. The food is excellent and I especially recommend the choice of two - soup, salad, sandwich. Most entrees come with a frozen fruit cup which is a tasty addition to your lunch.
If you have room, have a couple of the mini cheescakes in a wide variety of delicious flavors and includes some choices of seasonal ones as well. Prices are reasonable - in the $7-$10 range for lunch.
The only drawback is that there is not a large seating area so you may want to go for an early lunch.
We had a late dinner on a Friday of a weekend football game. Our reservation got us right into our table. Service was good, though a little slow as they were still very busy that evening.
The menu has a wide variety with an emphasis on pasta. The pasta is excellent and served in decent sized portions. My son had the prime rib which was huge and very good. The salad and bread are excellent.
Prices are reasonable and the restaurant is very family friendly. It is located in downtown Iowa City and within walking distance of campus and some hotels.
